BTO, are you still thinking Edwards will come of the bench for McRae?

My thought originally was McRae at the 2 and Edwards the 3, I'll stick with that. Many, actually nobody iirc, agreed with me that dmontre would be starting, many said jordy the 3 and skylar or josh the 2.

I still see it...

Golden 30/Moore 10
Jordy 25/Josh 15
Dmontre 25/Q 15
Maymon 30/Stokes 10
Stokes 20/Kenny 20

Skylar will get some minutes I just don't expect it to be many. I think the progression of Q takes away some of his minutes. If Moore isn't ready and josh has to play some PG, then I can see Skylar getting 15 minutes a game at the 2. That last spot will be between Armani, skylar, and Q IMO, one of them will be odd man out.

Oh ok, that didn't even cross my mind. I just don't know too much about Edwards.

As the above post said I see him much like a tatum, just a better shooter and scorer. Hell rebound, play defense, play hard on both ends and do the little things, he's a CCM type of guy.

When did your opinion on Edwards change so much? You seem to be thinking he can be a starter and is a better version of Tatum but I saw a comment from you saying you think he'll average like 8-2-1 or 8-3-2. 8 points doesn't seem like a better scorer than Tatum so what's changed? Not trying to call you out or anything but just curious.

Nothing has changed, I've always been very high on dmontre, probably his biggest supporter on here.

I thought I gave a little more credit like 9-6, because he's a very good rebounder. In any regard, no I don't think he'll put up 15 a game, but just because he averages 9-10 a game doesn't mean he isn't a better scorer than tatum.

I'm talking from an efficiency standpoint. Tatum averaged 8 a game, but did it shooting an average of 3-8 a game(35%fg shooter). I expect dmontre to get his 9 on about 4-9 shooting(44%fg), thus being a more efficient scorer. So I could see him having the ability to put up 15-20, but I think he'll be the all around type guy and shoot a good % for us and put up about 9-10 a game in an efficient way.

IMO I think we will see a lot of the same as last year in regards to that final spot with Armani, Skylar and Q. CCM seemed to utilize players that game planned well against certain opponents. I see Skylar getting some minutes against predominately zone teams. He's one of our only consistent 3pt threats. Outside shooting will open up the post for our bigs and ultimately the lanes for our slashers. I see Q getting minutes with more physical teams and Armani with faster teams. No reason to really expect this, but just an opinion of the small sample size Counzo has given us last year.

I agree with that. Much the way we saw miller more for some games than others, just will depend on the matchup.

There will be 8 regulars, and then the 9th will depend on the game and come out of skylar, Moore and Q IMO.

Maybe so, but there've been very few JUCO guys come in and make an immediate impact at Tennessee. I think Clarence Swearengen was the last JUCO to start immediately at TN and that was back in the DeVoe era. Dwight Miller is a good example. Top 10 JuCo recruit at a position of need who didn't crack the lineup basically all year. JuCo's take a while to get adjusted and by the time they do, it's usually the last half of their second year. Maybe Edwards - who is basically a top 50 JUCO guy - will be different, but I still expect him to be a depth guy vs a starter. Nine points ands six rebounds in the SEC is a lot ot expect out of guy who averaged 14 and 7 in JUCO.

Did bobby maze not start his first year here, and be pretty succesful at it?

Also, miller was a top 10 juco recruit last year? If so that's the first I've heard of it.

I said around 9/6, if it's 7/5 that's pretty close to my prediction.

Now I feel like Homer Simpson, "D'Oh!" How could I forget Bobby Maze???

Let's hope D'Montre has the same impact as Bobby Maze.:)

That was such an obvious one i wondered if I was delusional.

I have high expectations for Edwards, it's jmo. From everything ive heard CCM expectations are similar, he recruited him expecting to be a starter, that to me is telling.

If I end up being wrong ill gladly admit I was.

How many other PG's were on the roster the first year Maze was at UT? I am pretty sure Maze started and played heavy minutes because there weren't many other options. And iirc, Bobby struggled quite a bit that first season.

Tabb was a junior that year, only other PG really.

25+mpg 8+ppg 3+apg 2:1 a:to ratio 40%fg...not too shabby numbers, definitely an IMPACT guy which is what the debate was.

Calling Tabb a PG is a bit of a stretch. I understand what you guys were talking about, but to bring up Maze, it has to be in context. Maze played as much as he did because he was the only real PG on the roster, so his minutes and points reflected that.

True but he didn't flop, he was pretty good. A 2:1 assist to turnover is textbook, the ppg here fine, rebounded well, he is just fine. Numbers wise, his junior year was just as good as senior year when he led us to an elite 8.

I'm not expecting Edwards to be all-sec, but given his size and game, and knowing what CCM expects from him its what I see.

CCM recruited him to start, if dmontre doesn't screw that up and practices hard, then he'll start. CCM has proven his starters, if in shape, will play about 30 minutes. So you're saying that dmontre playing 25-30 minutes, it's unrealistic for me to expect him to score 7-9 points and grab 5-6 rebounds?

No, I am not saying any of those things. I was simply commenting on Bobby Maze.

Sorry got on a tangent was meant solely for you, more to germ, many seem to think my expectations are unrealistic.

Edwards has to come in and beat out McRae and Richardson. If he does, that'll either be really good (he's better than them):) or really bad (he's better than them).

Of course, I wasn't too excited about either of the fall recruits, so that may be coloring my expectations. I wish Edwards would have played in RTL. Yeah, I know it is meaningless, but at least you'd know if he's primarily an inside or outside guy. Just glad we're getting close to the time for games to be played and practice so we can start seeing vs speculating.

Hope Cuonzo lets his practices be a bit more open this year.

Well my projections have McRae at the 2 and Edwards the 3, so Edwards would just be having to beat out Richardson.

Well, it kind of goes hand in hand. You recruit JC players typically because you foresee a lack of death at a particular position. So, to say Maze started by default shouldn't be surprising. We had no depth, which is why he was brought in...to be our starting PG.

Unless JR had really improved his perimeter offense, I don't see him competing for major minutes at SG, thus Skylab probably still gets his minutes. JR will probably be backing up Edwards at SF.

I really hope there's a lack of death at all positions.:eek:hmy:

Not trying to be the grammar police. Lord knows I violate the Harbrace and spelling rules on a regular basis.

I agree to a point. You bring in Juco guys to provide depth, yeah, but Maze was the ONLY PG on that team. There is a difference between depth and a guy having to carry the load from day one. Goins came in the next season for the same reason and he got to be a backup for one year.

Yeah, Chris' auto correct is doing a number today. I particularly like Skylab in the other post.

So his shot isn't good enough for 15 minutes at the 2, but it's good enough for 15 minutes at the 3?

I was under the impression the 2/3 were VERY similar in CCM system.
