Also, remember he came from Missouri state to Tennessee, he's recruiting different level guys. If you say frank haith, calipari, crean, frank Martin....many of the guys they were recruiting previously you still can recruit at your new school. CCM didnt have the same luxury of already being in on top level guys.

Who has come from a mid major to a high major, under the NCAA scrutiny UT was, and had a better recruiting class in their 2nd year?

His 2nd class is Stokes, Moore, Reese, and Edwards. That's not too bad. I agree with you. For an guy in only his 4th year of coaching, his recruiting has been solid.

But nobody including recruits knew what the NCAA was going to do, so it absolutely effected the first class, and most likely atleast somewhat th 2nd class. It's called negative recruiting. A coach goes to a house of a player were recruiting and says oh I'm hearing they're gonna get hammered and post season bans. We had a lot of that going on against us, until the NCAA came down and said no more penalties. At that point though, your already lost some of your targets and they may have already committed elsewhere.

Pearl is one example, and as i said didn't have the NCAA looming for negative recruiting from opposing coaches. Also, pearl was fired for recruiting violations. Ever think maybe that's why he was so succesful recruiting? Are you suggesting CCM toe that line?

This class isnt even mediocre? Add stokes to this 2012 class,becase thats technically his class, and its really not that bad.

Check out Matt Painter at Purdue(same cut as CCM)

Year 1: 4*, 3*x3, 1 NR
Year 2: 4*, 3*x3, 1 NR
Year 3: 4*x4, 3*x1, 2*JCx2


Very similar to CCMs first 2 years. I'd actually say because of stokes, CCMs first 2 classes here may be more impressive. Bottom line, I'm not worried at all. Now if the 2013 class isn't significantly better, THEN I'll begin to worry.

Pearls second class. Crews, Chism, Tabb, Ramar, and Johnson. Looked good on paper but with the exception of Chism a complete bust.

Pearl's 1st recruiting class. Ryan Childress. Martin at least signed a top 150 player.

And as I said, pearl was canned because of NCAA recruiting violations. Maybe that's what it took for him to get those highly rated classes, do we really want CCM doing the same?

Pearl wasn't really canned for recruiting violations, it was about lying and trying to get others to lie too

That started because of recruiting violations. He doesnt committ the violations he down have to lie, he doesn't lie he isn't canned. I understand it wasn't direct, but in the long run he was canned because of those violations.

Also, actually learned something new today about negedus recruitment that was a clear violation.

I think most knew/realized pearl was the type that toed the line, many just didn't want to admit it. The BBQ definitely isn't the only shady thing that staff ever did. So that's why i say, using pearl as an example of a coach who recruited well in his 2nd year isn't the wisest. He's a known NCAA violator, I'd prefer CCM not do the same.

I apologize for making this a pearl versus cuonzo convo but it was just bc I was too lazy to look at other coaches.....pearl committed minor secondary violations.....the ncaa researched every bit of evidence they could find and found nothing more.....I fully expect zo Martin to have a few secondary violations before his tenure is done at Tenn.

I said worried not that he can't do it.....besides stokes the other three guys are very suspect talents.

Recruiting violations? Well I think having the kids at his house would have been considered a major violation since Pearl had been busted for it once before. Not sure how the NCAA is about that stuff but I cannot see them not hammering a coach for breaking the same rule twice, intentionally.

That is why he was fired. If you can't find a major violation in there somewhere then I can't really help you.

I know why Pearl deserved to be fired but my earlier reply was to BTO who was basically saying that Pearl was doing all this shady stuff to land better recruits at least on paper than Martin has so far..... I was saying that the NCAA went over phone records and interviewed everyone they could and found no major recruiting violations within the Tennessee program.

I think most would agree that UT cut Pearl loose so those major violations wouldn't be found.

No Pearl was cut loose bc the university knew that he would be facing a show cause penalty and the fear that increased sanctions would come to Tennessee for pearl lying to and misleading the NCAA. The investigation into any recruiting violations was closed by the NCAA with no major violations found.

People allow personal opinions get in the way of facts......show me some actual proof of wrong doing that's not considered a secondary violation....there is not a program in America that does not have a few secondary violations.
