Do any of you fools realize

What would you have done differently to stop it? I'm curious. :hi:

Have a defensive back start a play within 5 yards of Matthews for a start.

They overcompensated for the threat of giving up a home run ball to him the entire game.

Bringing some pressure off the edge with a safety blitz just once this season would be nice to see as well.

Falling back into cover 2 on that last big pass play to him was inexcusable.

They were already on the edge of FG range at the 33 and big play was needed. The defensive staff displayed an incredible lack of testicular fortitude on that last drive.

That Tennessee was one bad call. One bad call away from winning this damn football game? So if we had won we would be 5-6 going into an easy win Kentucky game and a chance to go bowling. I can almost guarantee it that this site would be completely different had we won the game. There would be no "fire Butch" threads and all that garbage. You people seriously live in the moment so much. Look at the big picture, we suck. It's not Butch's fault we suck, it's his predecessors, and he almost had us to a bowl game this year. Do not give me all that ignorant garbage about how Butch is a terrible coach, that's horse ****. He's been the coach for not even a damn year. Give the man time and let him and his coaches get some recruits in here that fit their system. He's gotta trim the fat off of this team first. A lot of us have a superiority complex where we think we should still be instantly good every year no matter what. I hate to break it to you but it's not 1998 anymore. We are different now and we still have a long road to recovery. Give Butch a chance, put away the Jack, and go to sleep.

One bad call? Are you saying we got "jobbed" by the refs? I say we got Dobbed by Butch. We were one even half-ass QB away from blowing them out. They turned the ball over 3 or 4 times.Defense probably played one of their best games of the season.Vandy won because we don't have a QB.....they tried to give us the game, and Butch wouldn't take it,because he obviously wanted to get his "hand picked QB" some more game experience instead of trying someone else and maybe get some kind of offense going. A bowl game was obviously not one of his priorities this season.

For arguments sake,Dooley was 1 win from a bowl last year and the year before that too.

Which bad call? I hope you are not referring to the 4th down reversal because like it or not it was the right call.

How do you know it was the right call? No one could see the ball. It could have been shoved down to his hip area. Where is the undisputable evidence?

Team 117 has never had an easy win and never will. Team 117 needs to be flushed and forgotten.

I'll have to look back but I thought we did a better job of playing the corner closer to the line in the second half.

It looked to me like the safety was out of position on that last big pass. In cover two on that play, he should have been there, no? (I'm fuzzy on the exact details)

Yep. Poor safety coverage on a 2 deep zone. I guess he didn't let him score though. Ha

I thought we were supposed to be happy with just being competitive and not getting blown out. Guess not, I know I'm not.

Had Pigs sideline catch not been bobbled, we would have had the 1st down and further advanced the ball and killed the clock.

I'm afraid your call for sanity will fall on deaf ears my friend. Losing will always suck and there are just people in this world who can't learn to lose gracefully and objectively look at the reasons we lost. They look for something or someone to blame...the coaches, the refs, the players, other fans (yes, some on here think that because some fans accept that we aren't good, their loser mentality affects the outcome of games), and of course the athletic director (who is apparently an Alabama mole whose sole reason for taking the job at UT was to destroy our football team...yes this has been said multiple times). The truth is that people can't accept the fact that this roster is just not good. Yes, we are a little better than Kentucky, but other than that, I don't think this team could beat any other SEC team right now. And that's not an indictment on Butch Jones, that's on his predecessors. This is a massive rebuilding job of epic proportions and hopefully Butch Jones is the man to get the job done.

Congrats...there is an actual poster on this wall who actually has a clue about football...good post buddy, couldn't have said it better myself....all these fake fans who just roll over and wanna blame coach after coach....blah blah....yeah dooley sucked but give jones a damn chance. He is playing with dooleys crappy players....news flash so called "vfl" fans it takes a few years to rebuild a program not 11 games...especially in the sec...get off ur high horse, its not 1998 anymore...look in the mirror and realize its 2013. Stop living in the past..I'm sick of the whining....and by the way...that was a terrible call on fourth down....the refs on the field spotted it short...not one camera angle showed where the ball was...I don't care where his body was, the ball could not be seen, so there wasn't enough evidence to overturn so it was a terrible call

Great post, but unfortunately there is no way to change the minds of anyone on the cliff jumpers forum.

They moved up from a 7 yard cushion in the first half to maybe 4-5 on that last drive. I don't recall seeing them in bump and run once all night in passing situations.

As for the safety issue on cover 2, our safeties are ALWAYS out of position :)

Why not line them up for a blitz where they could possibly disrupt a play for a change? Especially with the game on the line.

They were on the 33 yard line on that last big pass to Matthews. Jancek played not to lose in that last series and lost big IMO.
