The more an more I think about it, the more and more I get angry. We have people that enter this country illegally and do NOT want to assimilate to this country's values and ways. I believe that we should have an Official language and it should be English.

Thoughts???

Yes there was so much diversity between the men who signed the declaration. It actually has Spanish on the back of it.

and we stole the land from people who all had their own languages. Tell me, how many people do you know whose family came to this country and learned Cherokee, or Mohawk, or Siouan languages.

What language would you suggest we use? A lot of people will be in trouble if proper English is chosen as that official language.

i'm part indian, it doesn't bother me, now lets make the official language english

i am a descendant of native americans as well, and i think that making english the official language is pointless. It is already required that someone who wishes to become naturalized know English, what more do you need? Should we kick the French speakers out of Louisiana, and the Hawaiian speakers out of Hawaii?

It's different when you take the country by force. :good!:

I think there should be an offical language for use in how government conducts their business. Other than that, I don't care.

I agree. All government documents and legal documents should required to be in English. What people choose to speak is their business.

while I am sure that is sarcasm, French and Hawaiian are official languages of Louisiana and Hawaii, for the record.

It was. I do think that while we shouldn't force people to learn another language, we shouldn't have to change things for the new immigrants. If people want to speak other languages, it should be all right. I think people should have to take foreign languages in school not because we should make Mexicans feel welcome, but just because I think it is a useful skill. But I agree with what people have said, and all legal and government business should be conducted in English.
