Do you expect Nico to play much this year?

Just glancing at our schedule, I expect Nico will play all or most of the 4th Quarter in 7 games, and starting in the 3rd Qtr in at least 3 games.

*knock on wood* hoping he doesn't play a single game in the first half. Because that means Joe is (a) healthy and (b) on it.

Go Vols!

He should play in the 2 non-conference games and probably 2 SEC games KY & Vandy. That would be 4 games and still allow redshirt year, however, Nico will not be a redshirt candidate unless he were to be injured and not developed enough to go NFL.

If Joe gets hurt, then this would change. If Joe doesn’t play well, I think they’ll stick with him before putting in Nico unless something really bad happens like 3-4 turnovers before end of 2nd qtr

I hope we have as many games in hand as early as possible so he can get every snap possible in mop up duty.
If he starts it’s because Milton hasn’t done it and that’s not good.

Hopefully not much at all.

The best case scenario is Milton plays his way into being a day one draft pick next year and Nico gets a ton of experience this year from us being up big in games. The days of redshirts are over for these highly rated guys. They'll transfer if they think they are good enough to play and not given the opportunity when it is there.

Any player is eligible for one redshirt year (Not always freshman year) as long as they don't play for more than 4 games or become injured. This is Joe Milton's team unless he is injured, or he proves to the COACHES that he is not meeting expectations.

Depends on Milton. If Milton lights it up then we’ll see Nico in 4 games in mop-up duty. If Joe gets injured or stinks it up, then we’ll see Nico more. I expect the former.

If Nico is who we all think he is i don’t think the staff will be too concerned about preserving a redshirt year
I don’t think it matters if Nico is who we think it is. If Joe plays well, Nico won’t start over him unless Joe has some injury and needs to sit a game or 2. Me thinks Heupel and co will try to preserve his redshirt.

Joe is done after this year so there's no reason for Nico to transfer unless we recruit over him, which is extremely unlikely. He's surely aware he's not fully ready yet for Heupel's pre-snap reads at the SEC level and it's been obvious from the very early practices our starter is Joe.

He could redshirt this year, become very familiar with the system, start next year and have an extra year if he feels he needs it to prepare for the next level. It's a win-win for him to redshirt.
