Do you expect Nico to play much this year?

Hurts started as a true freshman and was never considered the slam dunk pro prospect Nico has garnered predictions. Different time frame also. He had a redshirt handy if he ever needed to utilize it. Since he started from the beginning, I don’t see the analogy as far as grooming Nico to be the starter next season.

My point is: no one saw things working out like they did for Hurts and him redshirting was a definite possibility.

It's wonderful to be orange tinted but things happen. They do. They aren't always wonderful even for the best QBs.

Having that "redshirt handy" is just insurance. If Joe balls out and is really leading the team well, Nico is dressed, practicing, learning, and STILL ready if he needs to enter that "redshirt breaker" game.

I expect he'll play to not burn his redshirt unless necessary. Mostly mop up duty like Milton last year

If he is the player we hope is , he is only gonna be here for 3 years anyway. Screw the redshirt and let him play.

I don’t think it matters if Nico is who we think it is. If Joe plays well, Nico won’t start over him unless Joe has some injury and needs to sit a game or 2. Me thinks Heupel and co will try to preserve his redshirt.

Nico is not going to be in Knoxville for 5 years, so there’s 0 reason to preserve his RS. The kid’s going to play in mop-up duty at every chance we can get to prepare for next season. That’s more than likely going to be in more than 4 games this season.

I’m hoping to see him mop up a bunch of games. Just imagine seeing him mopping up Georgia! We know the puppies will be fully healthy all season…

If the thinking is that NI will redshirt, then he isn't who I think he is. Mop up in blowout-type games, maybe half the third and all fourth quarters against the scrubs. He needs to get game ready, because crap happens.

There will be plays where Joe Milton's helmet comes off, or gets the breath knocked out of him. It's almost impossible that the back up won't see action in more than 4 games.

Also if Nico is the starter in this offense for 3 years and isn't drafted then he'll be recruited over any way.

I doubt he redshirts but yeah there is a reason to if Milton is just having a helluva year.

No it isnt... Brent Hubbs and the VQ crew have pretty much confirmed he wont redshirt because most dont expect him here past 3 years anyways. If Milton sucks Nico will play. If Milton is killing it and we are blowing teams out Nico will be playing to get as much experience as possible for next year.
