Do you Run?……Walk?….Bike?…..Swim?…..yoga?…..lift weights? What’s your workout plan?

I may have mentioned here that one of my woes is that from time to time over a number of years I had episodes of hip/pelvic region pain.

Very bizarre. Typically I would go to bed and wake up a couple hours later with severe pain. I'd take anti-inflammatories, but they didn't do much for 2 or 3 hours, and there was no way to get comfortable. The lingering effects lasted 1-3 days.

I looked online, I asked at a couple rheumatologist offices, I asked internal medicine, I saw hip people twice at the orthopedic clinic. No one had a good explanation for what was happening.

I think the mystery has finally be solved--by a chiropractor, of all people (I was desperate). His theory is that me walking out of kilter (or whatever, due to joint swelling), causes bands of muscle to tense up/contract/cramp and stick to one another.

His solution is to find sensitive spots where the muscles are out of whack, and apply rolling pressure, which prompts them to relax. Fingers crossed that this will help manage or even eliminate the episodes.

Vent: Fragging procedures poking holes in my colon, taint, and prostate have disrupted my cycling, and my daily life is about to be built around proton radiation therapy. I’m reduced to doing squats and other calisthenics. It’ll be May before I can get back into a ~predictable cycling routine. I know, quicher bichin’.

That sucks tin man but at least Calisthenics is better than nothing.

Went for a slow trot. Didn’t use the tracker as we’re still getting the Gabster used to the idea.
A couple more times of her getting used to the route and we might be back to running.

She is only 5 months old so we’re going slow with this
I might have to start running with my dogs at some point. Any tips for easing them into it (one at a time of course)?

Walking the route once or twice. Then speed walking it and running towards the end. They figure out pretty quickly what the job is. The puppy is taking a little longer.
We got 2miles in the other day at a slow trot. IMG_2238.jpeg

I have injured myself multiple times from lifting weights too frequently with too much volume. I have a new routine now that seems to be working. I am on a 4 day cycle.

Day 1: lift weights
Day 2: rest
Day 3: low-impact cardio for 30 minutes (usually a stairmaster, walking uphill on a treadmill, or rucking)
Day 4: rest

Rinse, repeat. Also, I make sure to get in 10k steps every day, including rest days. I was worried at first that I wouldn’t be lifting often enough, but every session so far, I have been able to progressively overload. I like to take my sets to failure, so I truly know my progression, and when doing that, I really need the extra days rest to let my body recover. Also, if I lift 3 times a week, I always end up hurting myself anyway, so bringing it down to twice a week has helped with that.

I've been training for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in DC in a few weeks. The smart watch predicts I'll run it at a little over an 8 min/mile pace... would like to get it down to 8 and finish in about an hour and twenty minutes.

One of my main issues is I still haven't quite found the right shoe to match my feet. I've got a lifetime of foot pain and toe issues and can't fix it. Lately I've been running with wide-toed barefoot shoes lately and they've been ok, except for when I was doing sprints. Would really like to get this worked out.

That’s trucking along.
My best ever was 8:30 for 5 miles. It wasn’t flat terrain but I don’t think that accounts for 30 seconds a mile.

I've been working hard at it. I really enjoy the alone time, especially with the view I've had the last few weeks. Got a lot of life changes going on as well so it's been nice to focus on a goal and get at it. 20250124_183657 (1).jpg

Did a trail run on Sunday. Much harder to run uphill for 2/3 of the way but the lower impact on the joints was nice. I think I'm going to work on being able to run all the way to the summit one weekend at a time.

Forgot image. I'm much slower when I have a lot of Incline. 1000000221.jpg

Trail running is great. I think it helps me a lot running on the softer surface on trails.
