Unexpected success at the local Turkey Trot. Shaved 50 seconds off my 5k pr.
I want to go sub 20 before I hit 40.
Bought a Garmin last week on early black Friday deals for hiking/gps stuff but mostly to train for a marathon before I’m 40. I’ve never been a runner, always hated it and would rather be lifting but it’s really made a huge difference in motivating me to run and keep my training on track. So far it’s been great. Had an Apple Watch before and as far as training goes it blows it away. And not having to charge it twice a day is very nice as well. And I look forward to my runs now rather than dreading them.
Still slow af but I’m improving. If anyone is on the fence about getting on, get one. You won’t regret it.
Which model did you get? I got the Fenix 7x ss. To me it seemed like the best of everything I wanted. Great battery life, good gps/maps stuff for hiking and good running stuff as well. I feel like there are others that are better for specific things but it was the best all around for me.Easily the best purchase I made this year and the best in all my years of running.
Mine is the forerunner 255. For me, it’s all about the running features. Tons of data before, during and after a run.Which model did you get? I got the Fenix 7x ss. Ran two 5ks last week. I would’ve called someone crazy if they said I’d ever do that. It’s been good though. Logged ten miles in total. I can feel myself progressing with each run. And I feel so much better after running. Even when I’m tried I feel energized afterwards. But even overall I feel better about life in general. Not that I was depressed but my mental state is much better.
On my training run today I brushed a 5:07 adjusted pace. Can’t sustain it for long but still feels good to know what that feels like. I can’t imagine a sustained pace at that level. And there’s people running marathons at a much quicker sustained pace. Gives me a new appreciation for those athletes.
Seriously. It’s made a huge difference. Even from my normal gym workouts. It’s like having a cup of coffee without the jitters. I feel focused and just so much better overall mentally. Runners high is definitely a real thing. My friend, it’s a great feeling. A good 3-6 mile run after a Monday at the office. Best way to unwind. I’ve not had alcohol in 7 years, a good run helps me process and unwind better than booze ever could.
Sheesh. Absolutely flying.Pushed it hard, very sore, huge amazing breakfast afterwards. That was fun.View attachment 706011
