Yes, convicted felon with a gun. I'd rather that only apply if a gun was used in the felony for which they're convicted.

Because they're violent criminals; same reason prisons are useful. If they can't act right and they're a threat, remove them from society or otherwise restrict their ability to do more harm. If someone actively uses a gun in a violent felony, take away their right to have guns once they're out. For exceptional cases where ownership is warranted, the ex-con can petition for reinstatement of the right.
