Sorry if this has already been posted, but I just noticed this in an interview with Coach Jones by the AJC earlier this week:

“The quarterback competition will be opened up. We have four individuals who will be vying for that starting position. But Josh has done a great job. It’s a lot to expect for a true freshman to come in and start in the SEC. He has got great poise, and he’s mature beyond his years. One of the things he needed to do this offseason was improve his weight. He has been able to do that. I believe he’s up to around 210 pounds now. He has done a great job with that, and I’m excited to see the steps he has taken from the Kentucky game to now moving into spring football.”

That's about 20 lbs of muscle he's put on since the end of the season. He's getting close to Tee's size when he was our QB (not to compare the two yet).

On his radio show today Doug Mathews said Dobbs had put on some weight and that he thought it would be either him or furgie starting this fall.

He was already starting to look a lot bigger when he was doing winter break workouts with George Whitfield and Quincy Avery. So I'm not entirely surprised - people tend to forget there's a huge difference between a true frosh and rs frosh just in terms of body/physical maturation and weight gain alone.

Look back and view the 2-14 Vols Workouts and you can see some of a younger T in Josh in these work out pictures. Looks like he is enjoying the competition!

I think OP is over reacting a tad. 210 doesn't really count as "freaking huge" when you're 6'2 or 6'3. If true, it is a nice weight gain for Dobbs. But it's not like he's going to look like a linebacker.

Some claim that Whirlybird Worley will be our captain. That could prove true.
Some insist the true heir apparent is Rifleman Riley.
That could prove true.
But I know the officer of our offense will be none other than the Dobb Goblin.

Did you take it upon yourself to give somewhat hilarious nicknames to all of our quarterbacks?

This. I saw him last weekb on campus. Hes gained some weight sure, but now he looks like a college football player as opposed to a hs qb
