Dobbs will be the starter, McCoy cut.

Will be listed on the PUP today.
That gives him 4 weeks to then be listed on the GameDay roster.
If not listed then, he's out the rest of the season by rule on IR.

Gotta think of the Cards weren't confident in him at least being able to suit up in a month they would just skip right to IR and seek out a trade or veteran deal.

From what the rumor is that they are going to evaluate at week 4, but they do not think he is ready and they do not want to put up with him anymore. They are in full tank mode.

Opening up at Washington, would love to go but don't think I can get the wife to drop a couple hundred on tickets for us both.

If they couldn't get ride of Murray, at that point they would just have to keep paying Murray but sit him behind a rookie. $150 million over 6 seasons is about $18 million a year. Just think of it as paying the rookie and Murray $9 million each (since the rookie deal is 5 years). It would be the only way for a GM and owner to maintain their sanity on paying Murray.
The $150+M is just the guaranteed portion. The contract is $230.5M over 5 years ($46.1M / year) and the salary cap hit is $16M.

It's a ridiculous contract that makes him essentially impossible to trade. That was my point. He's not only guaranteed a s&!t ton of money, the rest of his contract is even worse, given his lack of production.

No NFL team is going to take that contract off their hands.

Unfortunately for them too is that contract is just brutal.
Reminds me of the Colts and Carson Wentz a few years ago.
Best AZ can do is take the salary cap hit for a couple of years while playing guys like Dobbs or get lucky with an older veteran that has a year or so left in the tank.

As far as Dobbs starting, I'm thrilled for the guy !!!
He has a leg up in already knowing the coaches and system, so that should be the easy part.
Hard part is the learning curve of new locker room, new WRs, new O Line, etc.
It's a good opportunity for Josh and I hope he can make the most out of it.

Oh, c'mon man. I love Dobbs, but there are posters here who don't know any better and believe Dobbs just needs a " chance to show what he can do".
C'mon indeed. Those are called opinions. Everyone has them, you probably have some stupid ones yourself that you think are next level, just like everyone else. As I stated in different terms, he has had chances. It doesn't change the fact that this is a really good one. I legitimately do dislike that I had to break down a simple statement about it being a great opportunity as if I said something complex, something indecisive, or as if it was a statement out of left field.

We're about to find out if he has it.
I imagine they'll bring in another journeyman since Colt was cut.

Hey, if he takes this opportunity and puts on a Kurt Warner type performance, it will be a huge plus for the Cardinals. Maybe, all of a sudden out of nowhere, he'll become an accurate gunslinger

I believe they just signed Murray to a huge extension last year. Seem to remember some hubbub about them putting in the contract that he had to watch x number of hours of film per week or something like that. Of course when the media got hold of that little detail they had to backpedal and remove it from the contract

Honestly, when I saw the news about them adding that line-I questioned whether they had much of a commitment to him(other than the $ of course)

Then he blew out his ACL. Then the coach and GM who drafted him got fired.

You can kind of see the writing on the wall from a good distance.

If they get the #1 pick, Murray is gone. If they can get a team to even pick up half his salary and eat the other half then pay a rookie contract in addition-Cards would still have less $$ committed to QBs than most teams in the league.

By the time whoever they draft next year is off his rookie deal-Kylers contract will be off the books. The cost of doing business in the NFL these days I guess.
I'm going to assume the teams at the top of next year's draft will be interested in a QB, or teams that may be "a qb away". I'd attempt a sign and trade for Murray, if possible. It seems that relationship has been a bad fit from the beginning, and I think they wouldn't mind parting ways. They both could use a fresh start. Again, I don't think He plays another down for them.

Oh I agree fully. The problem being that right now, Kyler may fetch you a half eaten bag of Doritos.

Kyler hasn't shown much to date-in a system that until now was designed around his skill set

Teams gamble at the top of the draft with QBs because they can draft one and have a very friendly contract for 4-5 years. Goal being to take that savings and load up on other skill players and hope to grab a SB in that time. That QB is a dud, repeat in 3-4 years. Nature of the beast in the modern NFL.

Kyler has already been through his cheap contract days and I think his high level mark was a first round playoff exit. (I could be wrong on that-I didn't even follow the Cards when I lived there like 20 years ago lol).

Now Kyler has a $57.5 million a year contract average value for the next four years. Only way to build a team with that albatross is to hit on every single draft pick (impossible).

Look at the Broncos last year. Traded the farm for Russell Wilson and his huge contract. Minimal talent around him blah blah blah. Disaster. Every other team in the NFL saw that just like the fans.

Cardinals are tanking and ready to move on from Kyler Murray, the Heisman winner molded and coached by Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma, so they can select Caleb Williams, the Heisman winner molded and coached by Lincoln Riley at USC.
I wouldn't take him. He has a poor attitude!

Cards would be foolish to rush Kyler back.

Honestly, Arizona is tanking this season. If they get the #1 pick, Murray is gone

Might be best to just wrap him in bubble wrap for the year and protect at least some trade value
So they would tank the season in order to draft Joe Milton, and Dobbs would be his backup? 🤔🧐

The TV Prognosticators believe that the Cards are tanking on purpose so that they can acquire Caleb Williams from USC as their first draft choice.

Josh, I am now going to pull for you even harder as I hope you win a pile of games and mess up the front office's grandeur plans. Give'm hell Mr. Dobbs!!

Are they correct? Would an NFL team go along with a plan to lose every game on purpose? I just don't see it.

I don't know about tanking a whole season but the Bucks lost their last game of the season that year it was going to be either them or the Titans that got the #1 pick. It came down to the last game. TN was their game and Tampa was winning theirs. At the half they pulled starters and the lost that game and got the #1 pick Winston and we got Marriota with the #2

No, they will draft a rookie QB in the first round and have a very favorable QB contract for five years. Meanwhile, the Murray cap hit will be a huge albatross to putting a good roster around said rookie QB…leading to the Cards destroying the career of another highly rated QB before it ever gets started.

It is quite a vicious cycle.

Lose every game on purpose? Not at all. Field a team that is weaker than most NFL teams, has a high probability of losing a lot of games, and calling it cap restrictions/injuries/team evaluation and growth and that results in having the worst record in the NFL? Sure. Most owners/GMs probably know well before the season starts how they stand compared to the rest of the NFL. It might be near impossible to drastically improve the team to be a playoff contender, but making a couple roster moves or not making moves to guarantee an early pick for long term improvement is possible.

The template is out there. Draft a young qb and load up the roster in the first 4 years of that qb's contract before they get a big money contract. If you get lucky and draft a franchise qb, sign him long term. If not, you either try again, or go through the rotation of middle tier qbs.

How many middle tier qbs are on the winning list in the past 10-15 years? In 2017 it was Foles filling in, but Carson Wentz was playing for the Eagles like a top tier qb before he was injured.
