Doctors of VN

I think ERs in the Nashville area are total **** shows right now. The hospital I work for actually declared an internal emergency and opened up a war room after our ER had 17 holds in the ER awaiting beds on the inpatient side for admission. They even cancelled surgeries for today so that they can use the recovery unit to place patients.

I went in after they declared the emergency yesterday afternoon and we had already set a record for visits in a 24 hour period by ten last night.

Just a grab bag of this and that. Some really sick people for sure. Was in 3 codes in about a 14-15 hour period, and there was another I couldn’t get involved with going on in the ICU while we were running one in the ER.

You know you're supposed to heal them and not kill them while they're in the hospital, right? :)

These flu related deaths we keep hearing about in the news are really weird. I'd like to know more about what is really going on. I know not all of them have other underlying conditions.

I usually stress that first part to patients pretty hard, but you know some people just won’t listen to reason.

Honestly, that wiki is pretty explanatory. The line between MD and DO has blurred considerably, and many of my colleagues in residency (traditional Peds program) were DOs. None did any goofy manipulation, acupuncture, or anything.

So pretty much the same as a MD ? The Dr I saw today at a walk in clinic, had that instead of MD, but she knew her stuff really well - I just had never seen that before until today

Basically, yes. They do a little more in osteopathic medicine during the four years of school (which would have to mean a little less of traditional medicine). Often, they have to travel a little for their clinical rotations due to partnerships with medical systems, rather than having most fields represented at their base school/hospital. They can enter any residency, but there are more in primary care than surgical/subspecialties. The Residency training is side-by-side with MDs, and that is really where most field-specific knowledge and skills are obtained.

My primary care physician is a DO. Compared to the other family doctors I've had in my life he does everything exactly the same. You wait too long, you get called back and get weighed and questioned, then you wait again.
When he shows up and apologizes for being late he asks the same questions you answered an hour ago because he can't take the time to read your chart.
Otherwise...

And you had to fill out the same 3 or 4 forms on a clip board with exactly the same information as the last time you visited the office?

New malady question...

How long will the fatigue last from my h pylori ulcer?

Started taking 500mg Clarithromyc and 500mg Metronidazole last Friday and 500mg Tetracycline Tuesday (WM didn't have it and can't order it - my NP said two antibiotics so I didn't know I was supposed to be on the last until then).

The Pentaprazole has been a life saver for the debilitating stomach pain, but I get gassed so fast when doing much of anything.

Thanks!

Being on antibiotics for a long period, or a high dose can create an environment for C.Diff to grow. Being on multiple antibiotics at once definitely increases the chances.

Can any of you VN docotrs recommend an OTC anti-inflamatory that wouldn't be rough on my stomach? I have crohn's and arthritis and can't take ibuprofen or aleve.

We Had a patient come in who wrecked his car while high on meth come to the ER tonight. He ran out of the ER, went to the gas station down the street and stole a car and got into a police chase from Dickson to Kingston Springs somewhere. Classy guy.

I think ER employees ought to have a choice as to whether to treat a patient or simply let Darwin win the night. :hi:
