the same thing that happened to the academies in the 50's and 60's in happening to ND.

army and navy both have national titles but have been irrelevant in the big picture for years

So really? ND is that much more higher than everybody else. Then they will never be able to compete. That solves that. I wonder if the ND fans understand this. If so then they should accept that they are a perenial 7-5 team from here on out. They should get over it.

Seems like sour grapes for the ND fans. But what fan base wants to admit they no longer have a chance to compete?

Ummm, Standford, Ucla, and Michigan have high standards. Yet they beat ND.

um's admission standards for football are no higher than most other NCAA schools. For the average student body they are higher, but they let their coaches recruit whoever they want.

All of this being said:
RECRUITING RANKINGS
2009 - 21
2008 - 2
2007 - 8
2006 - 8

that is a bunch of pretty good football players that should be on the field for ND. They are not being coached.

Put this together with the fact that Kelly left that student manager on the scissor lift in a high wind warning, and didnt even get a slap on the wrist for the kid dying, sometimes it is just karma. I hope they never win another game under brian kelly.

That's what I thought. They are not being coached all around. This is in the hire. The coach before Weis was defense only and had no clue offensively. Weis was the exact opposite. Now Kelly seems to be all offense again. Doesn't seem like they can get an all around good coach who can hire a good staff. Also Weis and Kelly have serious game management deficiencies ( i think I spelled that wrong lol). This works good in the sun belt or the mac but in bcs conferences you have to bring it. Just sayin. I thought there was a reason CUM went to the Gators vs ND. He must see and issue with the university or something in the philosophy. Translation, you can''t win there.

As bad as UT has been in recent years, we shouldn't be criticizing anybody. It is true that ND has been bad more than a few years longer than we have. The irish haven't been very good for--what?--about 15 years, with perhaps an exception or two. Our futility goes back a decade or so. ND is supposed to have a pretty good passing game this year, no? I think defense has been their problem for a long time. They had a big lead on the ugly helmets and clearly should have won the game. You can't let a team go 70 yards or more in 30 second in three or four plays. College defensive backs are mostly clueless. I looked a ND's schedule--and man, do they play some crappy teams.

The longer this guy is on a national stage, the more he looks like a frigging clown. It's going to be a fantastic train wreck if they have a losing season.

Kelly is just not ready for a bcs program. Obviously.

Obviously, since he took Cincinnati to 2 BCS bowls before he left there for ND..

IMO until ND decides to forego it's Independent status and join a conference, they will never be relevant for a NC again..Not possible, even for them and their tradition, to overcome the BCS benefits of conference affiliation..JMHO

When the pac 16 becomes an apparent reality, the big ten will gladly accept nd.

The big east is hardly a bcs conference. It is in name only. Any good coach can win the big east. Rhict could go there and dominate. I mean when there is a threat of 4-5 teams to win the division.

However, I do agree that not being in a conference hurts them. Recruits are going to sec, acc, etc. The whole ND thing is messed up on sooooooooooo many levels it's crazy.

The last three years Notre Dame's Average class rank is 15. I figured they would rank 7th in the SEC in recruiting over the same period. By comparison ND's recruiting has been slightly better than South Carolina and slightly worse than Clemson.

The difference is ND would finish 11th in thsec in on the field record.

Well expect total anarchy then. MSU is a good 21 points better than ND. So a desperate ND can keep it to 7 pts. MSU is clearly better. Everyone knows ND can't play a full 60 min. They play like 35 min actually.
