The most important hire in the history of our school's athletics program is being handled by an AD that is one year removed from Alabama's Athletics Dept as an Asst. AD and that reports to a Florida Gator (Jimmy Cheek)? Maybe I am overreacting but I just have an extremely weird feeling about this. I guess we'll know after the "big" hire is made.

Nevermind that the last AD was a Clemson guy and the two before him had worked at Florida previously.

Laugh all you want , however, word right now is Gruden won't be hired because Hart will not give him complete control of the football program. Talked to someone today that knows Hart and said he is a control freak. When Gruden isn't hired, come back and laugh then if you want to.

We all know how the Clemson guy worked out dont we? Dickey was the HC at UT before leaving for FL.

. . . who graduated from Florida and bolted from Tennessee the first chance he got to take the Florida HC job. And guess what . . . None of that mattered when it was time to pick an AD. They decided he was the best guy for the job; sort of the same way every decently run organization in America operates.

UGA's AD is a Florida guy. Florida's AD is a guy from Ohio. They don't make goofy arguments about hiring people from the next hill over. Why do we?

I'm hung up on the fact that under Cheek, our athletics program has probably been the worst in history and based on what is out there right now, we're not getting Gruden because Cheek and Hart will not meet his demands for full control of the program. Read it and weep.

I think every hire Bama had thru the 90's and early part of this decade were the "most important " hires

...and none of that has anything to do with what particular schools either of them came from.

Could care less about Bama hires.. This hire will be crucial to the future of Tennessee football if we want to be relevant in the next decade or two. If the "right" hire is not made, we will flounder in mediocrity for a long time .

Maybe so, however, my point is I am not sure that "outsiders" have the same passion and understand the importance of Tennessee football as does someone that is from within the program with respect to the impact on the University, the city of Knoxville and even the state of TN.

Money only makes you loyal enough to want to keep your job. I want guys that bleed orange to be in charge of our program. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting conspiracy, only that UT guys will always care more.

If they make crappy hires or drag our name through the mud they won't last. It's why we don't have Mike Hamilton anymore.

Good Lord no it doesn't bother me in the least .......I have never seen a group of folks so paranoid about another group of people in all my life. Hart is there to do a job and he will do it .

what is this "full control " that he wants mean to UT ?

That Hart would not have the power that he has now.. Gruden wants to be able to make his own decisions regarding assistant coaches, scheduling (non-conference)and all "football" related decisions. Basically the same thing Saban has at Bama. Hart and Cheek are not going to allow this to happen. Sit back and watch......
