Gruden would be a home run hire. The only other name that comes close is Stoops. Your names?

Didn't say anything about him not being a homerun hire. Seriuosly dude. I don't care if he's a homerun hire. I wouldn't be happy if hart gave him complete control of the program. The guy is a neophyte in CFB.

Stoops could ask for complete control and I wouldn't have an issue with that. He's a proven EXPERIENCED CFB coach.

Is the difference so hard to understand home run or not???

Doesn't matter what my list is. Honestly not many coaches out there that I can say will guarantee wins. I can care less if someone is a" home-run" hire. I care about a coach that will win and bring integrity and stability to the program. Gruden can't promise any of those cause no one knows how he'll be as a cfb coach cause he has never been one.

One last thing...Harbough would be a bigger home run hire than Gruden. So saying no one comes close is just ridic... I just don't live in some fantasy land so I'm just sitting back and letting a hart do his job.

The most important hire in the history of our school's athletics program is being handled by an AD that is one year removed from Alabama's Athletics Dept as an Asst. AD and that reports to a Florida Gator (Jimmy Cheek)? Maybe I am overreacting but I just have an extremely weird feeling about this. I guess we'll know after the "big" hire is made.

Yes it does bother me a lot.

That Hart would not have the power that he has now.. Gruden wants to be able to make his own decisions regarding assistant coaches, scheduling (non-conference)and all "football" related decisions. Basically the same thing Saban has at Bama. Hart and Cheek are not going to allow this to happen. Sit back and watch......
I'm impressed. There are only a handful of people that could actually know if this were true or not and you seem to be one of them!

Laugh all you want , however, word right now is Gruden won't be hired because Hart will not give him complete control of the football program. Talked to someone today that knows Hart and said he is a control freak. When Gruden isn't hired, come back and laugh then if you want to.

Somehow I think this hire is being conducted by more people than just Hart. I hope so anyway...

No, not really. Can you name a big time program that has home boys in both of those positions? The Bama/Florida conspiracy is a little much for me.

As I was sitting with my 2 sister-in-laws ( both Bama grads ), and 2 bro-in-laws ( both Bama grads ), earlier this evening - this came up. They were ribbing me that Tennessee had to hire an Alabama man for their AD.

I don't care for the hire a whole bunch. But if he gets Gruden then he'd make me feel a whole lot better about him being the AD. We get somebody like Kirby Smart then some boosters might have to answer as to why Tennessee hired Mr. Hart.

Human nature is a funny thing. And human nature creates biases.

Why do you think the SEC and other conferences do not allow their officials to call games at their alma mater?

From SEC coordinator of football officiating Rogers Redding:

“A person cannot work a game for their alma mater. They cannot work a game if they’ve played for or played with that coach.”

As an example, Mr. Redding said, "a referee who played football at Alabama could not work a Mississippi State game because he had been teammates with MSU coach Sylvester Croom at Alabama."

So I think it's naive to think because one takes on a high paying job that all of a sudden all bias is gone. Can Mr. Hart be professional enough to overcome it? Let's hope so. But way back there - way back there in the back of his head - there might be just a wee bit of Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer reverberating enough to throw him a little off kilter.

But what am I saying. Surely not. That's crazy talk!

A reminder from the UTsports site:

"A 1971 Alabama graduate, Hart played basketball for the Crimson Tide under legendary head coach C.M. Newton and earned a master's degree from UA in 1972 while working as a graduate assistant basketball coach. Hart met his wife, the former Pam Humble, while at Alabama. Pam is a 1970 graduate of The University of Alabama, and the couple has three children: Rick, who serves currently as the athletic director at UT Chattanooga, Jamie and Kelly."
