Does McGwire deserve the HOF??????

in the results oriented nature of the argument (which you usually have a certain penchant for using), his individual results, offensively speaking anyway, were ridiculous....and he did win a championship.

also, a little suspiscion never hurt anyone....right Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson.........?

:p that's why!
His home run totals for a 5 year window were impressive. That's really about it. Couldn't run, wasn't anything special defensively. If that's what passes for greatness these days, so be it.

oh, i agree. i dont ever recall him making a defensive impact on any game at any time....

and im not a huge baseball guy, but to me, that kind of makes what he did offensively that much more impressive....he was a factor, a huge one at that, when he was on. Plus, he was never looked at as a value on defense anyway, his only value, and everyone knew it, was his bat...it's what he was known for, period.

and from an intrinsic value standpoint, what he and Sosa were able to do for baseball at the time it was going on was remarkable...two guys breaking RM's record in the same year, going neck and neck, in the same division etc, etc, etc,...even for the very casual baseball fan, ala people like ME, it got you interested in it again...

For whatever that's worth?:dunno:

OK this is a big time heated question???

I say yes.
As a rookie he blasted 48 homeruns, and was a toothpick.
He is one of the most well known powerhitters of all time.
He has NEVER failed a drug test, plus he retired in 01 and steroids werent banned in baseball until 02.
The supplement, ANDRO, that he was taking was an over the counter drug. Not illegal.
He helped save baseball in 98 with Sosa. Has 583 carrer homeruns.
And for ppl who wanna scream how juiced he was, chew on this. The balls have been juiced since early 90s. And for all those poor pitchers who had to face these guys, who knows how many of the pitchers were also juiced.
I hope yall come strong with your arguments. My vote is YES.

Hat, I expect you to have a great argument here.

I agree with most of that except for the part that he saved baseball in 1998. I mean do you really think if none of that happened that baseball would be dead?

He brought alot of media attention to baseball. Yes

But saved the game. Not in my opinion.
