Obama's rise is really not that big an anomoly. It happens all the time. Could you have predicted in the mid 1980s that Bill Clinton would be President (especially after that death march of a nomination speech he gave at the '88 convention)? George Bush wasn't even in politics in 2002 and was running the Texas Rangers. Before the nomination race began, I remember someone posting, "..no way this country elects a black man named Obama." And indeed it is amazing the support that has surfaced for him during this race. I really like Obama, but I also believe the unmitigated disaster that has been the Bush/Cheney administration, has by and large increased this country's willingness to elect someone who 8 years ago may have stood much less a chance.
Regardless what you think of the man, I'm surprised so many on here doubt that he has a chance to win. Under different circumstances and against a different candidate (like McCain in 2000, e.g.), maybe not. But Obama certainly has a chance, and I'd say a very good chance to become the next POTUS.

I think Obama has a good shot at winning right now but November is a long way off. The general election is 6 months away and look what McCain was able to do in 6 months, he went from no chance to nominee.
I agree, but it will be hard on him because of the Clinton factor......
Heads up he will beat McCain because McCain is a piece of trash.
It will all come down to whether or not the democratic voters will unite......
Here's what the electoral map looks like now, McCain leads 290 to 237 in electoral votes.
