Dogs of VolNation and other pets that are inferior to Dogs

I like the neighbor who only picks up the dog crap in their neighbors yard when they know you' might be looking at them

Got a down payment in for German shepherd pup. I had a German Shepherd\husky mix when I first married my wife. I told her this dog, it's going to be mine and the breed that I choose. I cannot wait to see what he looks like and to be able to bring him home. Do any of my vol nation friends have any German shepherds?

Did you say down payment on a dog?

I have had always had GSDs. I have 3 now. Check my earlier posts in this thread for pics and details.

I think I have only purchased two GSDs out of the many I have had over the years. The three we have now are all rescues. Two of which are full-blooded GSDs with papers.

There are plus and minus to buying vs adopting. I have trained many dogs over the years, so I am comfortable working with rescues, most of which come with various special needs and issues. However, for a novice a big smart dog with issues can bring on major behavior problems to the point of being unsafe to introduce into a family environment.

I only added all of this because you may hear a little push back about "buying a dog". Nothing wrong with this if you are set on a GSD and a clean slate is best for your situation.

Please post pictures when you can.

Good post CH. We got our English Mastiff from a breeder but we rescued our Pit Bull. I will always lean toward rescue from now on but you bring up some good points.

Thanks, I have rescued, trained and placed a number of GSDs over the years. Some with families and others with organizations that train service dogs for wounded vets or search / protection.

I am amazed at the number of pure-bred GSDs that we have rescued. Most in the 6-months to 2yr range. Some folks buy them, do not properly train (crate them all day) and then find out at 6-months that they are giant destructive puppies. Displaying dominance where they can and searching for direction / attention.

After 6 months it takes a patient firm hand to bring them back around to being productive family members.

We got Ruger at 10 months old. Bless his heart he was so messed up that I have kept him because I do not think he could handle being displaced again. He is 3yrs now and he still has major detachment issues if I leave and trust issues with teens from being abused by the original owner's sons. Great dog, but he has sort of a "Jerry Lee" type personality.

Give the Brindles a pat on the head for me. Stay safe...

I suspected that. Since everybody knows we're talking about dogs couldn't it just be GS? :p

Just adopted a foxhound rescue. She's super sweet and well behaved. Appears to have allergies though :/ trying to target them.

before we left on a trip today my son and I took our dog izzy to a place that was keeping her while we were gone. When we got there they asked if it was okay if she was boarded with another dog if they got a long and we said of course. Well when we met the other dog and saw how great they got a long we went home and got my wife and daughter so they could meet the other dog. Now on Monday morning we get to pick up two dogs instead of one.

Izzy is the brown and white we were getting boarded.
The other dog is named spencer right now, but we are thinking of naming him Jedi he is the awesome new addition
