The reality is that Trump fought sanctions being imposed against Russia, but he had no choice but to sign a sanctions bill, because Congress had a veto-proof majority. Trump did stall against those sanctions being implemented for as long as he could.

Facts .... on the way out the door Trump was denying Russian involvement in the SolarWinds hack .... even though his own Secretary of State was publicly saying that it was Russia. This was a common theme of Trump's presidency.

Millions. Putin was always going to go in to Ukraine. It's a sense of national pride. Trump or no trump. He needed to feel like he had insulated his economy enough from western sanctions and believe he could hold Europe hostage with energy. He felt like he had reached that point a year ago. He was wrong.
