I'm not. Once he pulled the race card, I was done with him.
Man, Cuonzo was someone that I really respected and liked. I was really hoping he was going to be successful long-term for us. Loved his life story and how he got from where he began to the success he has today. But, once he embraced and tolerated that race card crap, I lost tons of respect for him and tapped out 100%. I was ready to Bring Back Bruce at that point.

I don’t think that Cuonzo was ready for the job. Maybe he was close with the Xs and Os, but he didn’t handle the petition well. I don’t think that he understood the phenomenon that Bruce was by not just getting TN to 6 straight NCAATs and the EE but also how he turned TN BB into an event. A more experienced coach could have managed that awkward situation better.

Then Bruce didn’t help matters by lurking around Knoxville and keeping a high profile. All of that devolved into Cuonzo piling into the racism angle. And I do believe that his wife was mistreated by some anonymous idiot(s) and that reflected poorly on the entire fan base. Who wouldn’t have been extremely upset by that crap if it would have happened to their wife or GF or kid? The petition was idiotic as well.

You said that well. I felt the same.

The only thing I don’t like about Tyndall was his zone trap defense. It left good shooters open too much. I recall Kornett from Vandy hitting about 10 3s in the corner in the first half at TBA. Game was over at halftime. It happened a couple times that year. That d might work at lower levels but SEC guys can hit if you leave them open

It worked great in November and December. Then the talent in the SEC tore it to shreds.

Tyndall would have ended up being the 4th best coach in Tennessee history or so (not bad company). But Barnes will finish as either the UT GOAT or GOAT runner-up to Mears.

I will go to my grave saying he is one of the best X & O's coaches ive ever seen.
I just don’t get this level of effusive praise for the guy at all. His entire career highlight reel was riding a surprise NBA guy to one tournament upset. That’s it.

His team here gave up more points per game than it scored and went 2-7 at home in SEC play.

Well that roster was by far the worst in the last 30 years. Maybe more.

He groomed Josh Richardson into a point guard during his season. You know what happened there! Also, he was 16-16 in his first season with back to back wins against Kansas State and Butler. With what he had coming back and his new recruits he would have competed for the title the following year. Rob Gray, the All Big 12 point guard had dinner at his house the night before he was fired. His best friend was on the team. Barnes first year was 15-19 and 6-12 in conference.

IMO Tyndall would have had TN on probation. Maybe even a death penalty after having Bruce here. It was getting really sleazy. I bet that Auntie_Dee could have told some DT stories.

Probably because he inherited the mess Tyndall left.

Tyndall was also 12-5 and ended 16-16. Butler I'll give him but Kansas St. finished worse than us so not sure why that's impressive.
