This will come down to an SEC call, IMO. Texas lost by 15 to UGA and again by 3 against a backup QB for 1/2 of the game. Only beat Vandy by 3. Committee can justify it if they/the SEC choose to. Along with Tennessee arguably having a "prettier" loss to UGA during regular season, I think the decision will come down to matchups and venues. Vols are not out of the running; don't be shocked if we are hosting.

We’re playing either Ohio St. or Penn St. on the road and that’s all there is to it.

Wouldn't be surprised in the least if it's Vols @ 8 and UTjr @9. Would be a DREAM matchup, would guarantee a non rematch in round 2 (against the prize of the tourney nonetheless). It makes a TON of sense. Just thinking out loud. Conventional wisdom says we go on the road, but this committee...

Absolutely zero chance texas goes from #2 to #9. I think they are a lock for #5. Losing in overtime doesn't warrant that huge of a drop. It's Happy Valley or the Shoe. Today sealed our hosting chance
I agree they most likely will not drop below us but they wouldn't be dropping from #2 to #9, they would be dropping from #2 to #7(which would be the #9 seed). That's not completely out of the realm of possibility, even though it is very highly unlikely after losing in OT.

They would actually be going from #2 to #7, while we move up 1 spot to #6. Those would be the rankings, not the seeds. Every team has dropped at least 6 spots in the rankings after a second loss this season other than Ohio State. A 5 spot drop for losing to a backup QB is not crazy imo. I just don’t see it happening since Georgia was a top 5 team both times they played this season. I think we will be playing at Penn State, as they will rank Ohio State one spot ahead of Penn State due to the head to head and Ohio State playing Oregon closer on the road. We would have been better off had Texas ran away with that game today coupled with the Beck injury since they had set the precedent for taking injuries into consideration last year with the FSU injury. Georgia probably would have plummeted to that 10-12 range had they lost by 3 scores.

committee chair said teams not playing in a conference championship would not move up, it could move down. UT cannot move up higher than 8th. He stated this more than once in interviews this week. We aren’t hosting.
That’s not the way I understood it. He said teams not playing this weekend wouldn’t be jumping ahead of other teams not playing this weekend. He said nothing about conference championship participants moving down. He said they’ve moved teams after championship games every year and this year would be no different.

They aren't punished Texas and dropping them 7 spots for playing an extra game and losing by 3 in OT. Just Isn't happening. We will be at Ohio St or Penn St. End of discussion.

Y’all must not understand the rankings. They wouldn’t be dropping 7 spots. They would be dropping 5 spots. Rankings and seeding do not go hand in hand.

This is exactly what he said, and I don't know why people keep misinterpreting his language.

Teams that didn't play will not be re-examined or moved on their own, but teams that DID play will be evaluated and moved around.

So in other words, teams that didn't play won't be re-ordered, but they CAN move due to an empty slot appearing above them, or a team that played during championship week being re-ranked beneath them.
