Don't Like to Blame Games on Refs....

Sometimes a team will just play better and Florida did in the 2nd half. The officiating was poor as usual when you get Sirmons and Shows. They are almost as big a joke as Higgins and Burr. The foul on Bone on the 3 point shot was a flop a game changing call that gave Florida momentum they never gave back. They deserved the win, but we were not allowed to play defense in the 2nd half.

That would be my question. Who are the actual mainstream journalists? Lot of journalists and bloggers now a days. And some even claim that ESPN "journalists" are the real deal.

You need to reference proof to that assertion. Actual Mainstream Journalists?

I'm talking about stuff I've read over the past several years, so it's not like I have links handy. Pretty sure I've read some stuff this year from Wes Rucker about how UT always finishes lower in the coaches' poll. There was a profile on ESPN.com a couple of years ago which talked about how Pearl isn't popular with other coaches. There were a whole bunch of snarky comments from other coaches about Pearl in the wake of the chest-painting incident. Even Pearl hagiographer Mike Griffith has made a few veiled comments over the years about Pearl's relative unpopularity among his peers.

Again, I don't mean it as a shot at Pearl. I don't necessarily want my team's coach being the president of the Backslapping and Gladhanding Association. But if it's going to show up anywhere on the basketball court, foul discrepancy is where you'd expect to see it, because maybe an unpopular coach isn't as effective at working refs as the other guys are.

Oh we lose this game either way. But the refs calling in the 2nd half was an abomination. If that was typical of all games to get called that way nobody would ever watch basketball. It was a total joke. A hand check on 5 straight possessions after not calling very many at all the first 20 minutes of the game. Yeah consistency is overrated!

Donovan is by all accounts a hell of a nice guy and probably thinks highly of everybody.

I didn't even mean that as a shot at Pearl; I meant it merely as a statement of fact. It's been reported for years that Pearl is pretty much detested by his peers. I've read accounts by Actual Mainstream Journalists talking about how Tennessee is always ranked lower in the coaches' poll because nobody likes Pearl, speculating that his players don't do as well in all-SEC voting, etc. I thought it was common knowledge that Pearl is extremely unpopular in his profession.

It could be assumed that Pearl wasn't liked by other sec coaches because he brought UT basketball to life. Generally, coaches will like a coach more when they are not a threat. BP made UT a threat and jealousy or envy exists in the egotistical world of coaching. Everybody loved Wade and buzz. I'll take an unliked coach who wins.
