Don't tell me you don't care

Last 15 years of 5-7 seasons off and on don't help. While other teams continue playing cup cakes almost guarantee 12 win seasons. Keep driving their win totals up. Such as ohio state Michigan. Usc Notre Dame. Hopefully in the near future we get some favorable schedules..

Football didn't really start at UT until Gen Neyland arrived in 1926. Since that time, the University of Tennessee is tied for 5th in most wins behind only Ohio St, Alabama, Oklahoma, and UGA (tied w/Texas). They are 9th overall in winning pct with Alabama being the only SEC team ahead of them.
That's not really true, though.

We played football for about 35 years before Neyland arrived as an ROTC professor and athletic coach. And a handful of the coaches (often student-coaches) who came before Neyland had pretty good stints.

Like J.A. Pierce, who went 9-4-1 (.679) the two seasons he coached (and played). Or Zora Clevenger, who led the Vols for five seasons, amassing a 26-15-2 (.628) record, including one undefeated 9-0 season, and our first conference championship. John Bender went 10-5-3 (.639) in his two seasons. And M.B. Banks went 27-15-3 (.633) in four seasons just before handing the reins to Neyland.

All of these are in the same ballpark as Johnny Majors (.645), just with shorter tenures.

Yeah, we played good football before Neyland. He just took it up two more notches to championship caliber.
