Hart actually thought Dooley could save the season and didn't have a plan b?
As in Hart hasn't been interviewing coaches? I know if I was the AD I would have somebody ready to step in by now and it would make a way easier transition.

If I'm Hart, I give Dooley an ultimatum: Either he gives up a significant portion of his buyout, or I keep him on as a janitor or something (clean the players uniforms, keep the footballs inflated, whatever). That way we're only paying him his salary for a couple more years, and not some exorbitant buyout. If he chooses to leave, then we're released from the buyout. I think Hart holds the cards here. JMO
His salary is guaranteed. Even if he worked as a Janitor or whatever he is paid the same. It would cost more to keep him on than buy him out. I think he still has 3 more years left on his deal after this year.
