Dooley has been fired (unconfirmed)

Guys gruden's record in the NFL was barely over .500. Is there any reason anyone thinks he would be a good head coach in CFB? 93-85, or something close to those numbers. Barely over .500

You are gonna get slaughtered when the Gruden backers see this. Lol

Dooley took over a job with at the time the lowest expectations in the history of the program and still underperformed. Yes we were a train wreck when he was hired but three years later the train is still off the tracks. I disagree that the new coach will be walking into a great situation though. Recruiting the last two years has been very average and this years class is looking even worse unless the new coach can make hay late. We are losing 95% of the offensive play makers to graduation or the NFL. We have no speed in the secondary and a d-line that couldn't get pressure on a team with 5 o-line starters out. We have one decent linebacker and he is slow as Christmas and after 3 years of pathetic we don't have a decent place kicker or punter. Regardless of who the coach is next year we will be picked to finish 6th in the east. Doesn't mean we will but the table isn't set for a new coach like some believe. All in all FIRE DOOLEY

Look at the numbers for a lot of very successful NFL coaches and you'll see similar numbers. Pete Carroll is at 51%. No one wins them all in the NFL like they do in college.

I just talked to a friend of mine in Knoxville who is very close to the football program.

Derek Dooley was fired tonight and an official announcement will be held on Monday or Tuesday. Chaney will finsh out the season as interm.

Can anyone else confirm this?????

Was your friend on the grassy knoll? Or were they involved in counting votes in Florida? LMAO I'm close to the football program also because I know people who know people! One of my friends played center for UT but he doesn't know squat! STHU until Hart has a news conference!

We suck and everyone knows it. We know the inevitable now and so does CDD. Let it play out!

:eek:lol:

Gruden would be a big splash and get us tons of attention. He would likely have a couple of very good recruiting classes. After a couple years of dealing with college kids and having to answer to an AD he would say screw this and move on to something else. I just don't think he is cut out for the college game.

Out of curiosity who do you think is a great NFL coach?

Yeah, speak for yourself. I want Gruden. Only coach we could possibly get that will have us competing within 1 to 2 years. Any other coach will be 3 to 4 years.

Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban and Pete Carroll don't think you have a good point here.

How many coaches in college win them all? None

I hate people that answer their own question.

It kills me how people think NFL coaches should have the winning records of college coaches. Very very very few do. Even Bill Belichek's percentage looks slightly above mediocre.

There ya go. NFL is very hard, and the guy your sticking up for wants to say his record is just above .500. Thanks for answering.

Did Dave Hart make Dooley ride home with him the same way he made Dooley fly home on a separate plane?

This. It is tough to win every year in the NFL because of the way it is set up. The fact that Gruden has a SB ring and beat his former team is telling. The man has a lot of passion for the game. He understands football.

At some point someone with this thread will nail it. I've read the same thread every Saturday night for a month now. At some point it will have to be right. Of course every Friday I read "Why we will beat team X" and that one is never right.

Word is Dooley will not be fired this week since the team still has a bowl game to play for.

The decision to fire him is made and if we win out the next two weeks he will be announced as fired after the Kentucky game.

If we were to lose to Vandy and bowl game is then out of the question he would be fired that subsequent Monday.

Everyone in program very much wants a bowl game for the new coach to come in and get to know the team.
