What do you guys expect with this movie? It's being made soley to get people to laugh. The old stuff worked so why not rehash the same jokes and mix in a few new ones....None of us are going to see it for the storyline, are we? I'm thinking that they're showing some of the old jokes to show that it's the same guys doing the same stupid stuff. I can't wait for this one.

That's the thing about sequels. You don't rehash and reference old material. You maintain the same style of humor and give new material. That's why I thought Anchorman 2 was very well done. The characters were all the same, everyone was the same, it just felt like a continuation of the first one, which is exactly what you want in a sequel.

If Anchorman 2 had them singing "afternoon delight" again, brick yelling "loud noises!" again, Ron saying his apartment smells of rich mahogany again, all to try to cash in on why those things were funny in the first one, it would have pissed me off. They did similar things to the first one (Brian's condom collection as opposed to the cologne collection, the news anchor fight, etc) but made them dramatically different. The first time Jim Carrey said "ah like it ah lot" in the first one it was funny because it was random. Pointing and laughing at someone's misfortune as opposed to helping them was random and funny. Doing the exact same jokes again takes out the random-ness, which essentially takes out the humor.

Which joke in the trailer was used in part 1? Same kind of humor, but i didn't see anything repeated.

I'd imagine they used many of the old jokes in the trailer just to get people interested.

The new stuff you'll have to pay to see.

I have really low expectations for this movie. Most comedy sequels suck, and though I like the first, I'm not religious about it like most people seem to be. That being said, the trailer actually looked pretty good.

From what I saw:

"ah like it ah lot"
Mouth spray in the wrong direction
Laughing hysterically at someone getting hurt
Mary "Samsonite"
Freda Felcher

And that was just from a 3 minute preview.

Jim Carrey's comedy just isn't funny anymore. I don't have any expectations for this film. Carrey isn't natural. He just tries too hard to be funny.

They actually thought her name was Samsonite and that was hilarious, reusing that is funny. Spraying the spray isnt so much a joke, thats what he does. Who doesn't laugh at people getting hurt?

I was hilarious the first time. It's been done already. Don't ruin a classic line.

It's meant to be a joke. He's so dumb he doesn't even know how it works. Again..... it was funny the first time. They should focus more on coming up with new ways for him to be the same kind of stupid.

Who doesn't laugh at people getting hurt?

Everyone laughs. However, turning and pointing aggressively at the guy who just fell out of his chair was a classic scene from the first. It was totally random and classically ignorant/ funny.... the first time they did it. Doing it again to another guy is just trying to cash in on it.

Have you ever seen Next Friday? The first Friday movie was incredible. There was a very often quoted line where the dad comes out of the bathroom and says "no one go in there, for about 35-45 minutes."

At the start of the very next movie (Next Friday) the dad knocks on the door of the room the son is in and tells him to hurry up getting ready, the son looks at the camera and says "I'll be out in 35-45 minutes." It's very corny and just cheaply trying to cash in on the line from the first movie. Needless to say Next Friday was awful.

Maybe a poor example, but the point is highly quoted one-liners should be left alone. Don't reuse them. They're no longer funny, random, or quotable when they're reused. The same goes for all other first-movie attempts at humor.

Yes I've seen and own all 3 Fridays and they are all hilarious.

The thing about Dumb and Dumber is that the guys are dumb, they don't know any better when it comes to those things.

If you thought the 3rd Friday was hilarious then I no longer am curious as to how you think this trailer looks funny.

No offense but that movie was unwatchable.

What's the difference between the anchorman condom vs cologne and dumb and dumpers hot peppers vs catching him on fire? It's the same thing.

I think you're missing the point. The funny part wasn't eating the peppers, it was funny because of the trademark point and laugh that they did in the first movie. Regardless of the situation, it was funny and random and won't be funny and random the second time around.

Now that you put it that way I can say that the funny part about the anchorman situation was the same type of hyperbole with the cologne and condoms. See how that works?

"It wasn't funny because it was cologne or a condom. It was funny because he kept them in a case. "

I just don't understand when people say it's too much like the first one so it won't be funny to them.

Same thing happened with the hangover movies. A lot of people said 2 & 3 were just like the first one so they didn't like it. The first one was hilarious..so what's the problem?

Originality tends to go a long way in comedy, the third time you see the same gag it tends to be a lot less funny than the first time you saw it. In the case of the Hangover movies, the 2nd one was just bad and the third one was borderline unwatchable.

IMO hangover 2 was the best. I was kind of disappointed with the 3rd one.

Also, based on the last scene with him accidentally sticking his hand in the old lady and her liking it, looks like they are going to go the route of gross humor instead of actual funny humor.

I absolutely love the first one. It looks like they are going to go way overboard and completely botch the second one. Unless they come out with a better trailer I won't be seeing this.
I guess you forgot the toilet scene

Whoooooo! Recycled jokes and cheap laughs! Yeeeaaahhh! is there any reason this movie is happening other than Jim Carey and the Farrelly brothers need a paycheck?
