I know it’s tough to predict but do you see anything looking promising for snow in Knoxville on the horizon? I’ve seen a couple of predictions that January will bring several opportunities.

Just based on climatology, it's a good bet that January will provide opportunities for snow. Adding to that, hemispheric patterns do hint at a colder end of December into January. The question is how cold it gets and how long that cold spell lasts.

After an extended period of cloudy weather, we have a tiny bit of good news: This week, the sunset begins to set later. It's not a big change yet, but it's a start of a 6+ month trend. Sunrises will continue occur later into early January.

It's not East TN, but was watching storm coverage last night on the weather channel and they were in the East New Orleans suburb of Albi where a tornado struck yesterday runing West to East. And it crossed the exact same neighborhood and some of the same houses as the tornado that hit there 8 months ago runing South to North. Exact same spot twice inside 12 months. Crazy.

It's too far out to confidently forecast any details, but it's possible we see some form of wintry weather with this cold blast. At the very least, should be a situation favorable to some orographic snow across the higher elevations.

Models keep getting colder and colder. At least we won’t have highs in the 60s a week before. The 20th is starting to show another system as well.

If one thing is certain is this will be a deep cold that we haven’t saw in years.

My dad just told me down in Huntsville they’re saying they have the potential for heavy snow showers. Again, it’s early but I like what I’m seeing and hearing so far. He works at the airport so they’re always looking at weather in advance a little bit.

Needless to say, it's going to cool off substantially come Christmas. Below is the latest GFS run but even the Euro has it dipping into the low single digits.
