Eddrick Loften to visit USC

This is getting ridiculous. We didn't complain when we pulled in Teague, Richardson or Jackson, yet when it happens to us the wrath of God should come down on all involved. For those who think this is not a business, think again. We chose to accept Kiffen and company knowing that they would probably leave in 3 years albeit with a stable of top tier recruits. Well, we got shafted. Now lets put our faith in CDD to reel in Loften and other recruits. Venting time is over, it's time to move on.

How are Teague/Richardson/Jackson even remotely similar to this situation? The only similarity is they were committed to another school when we got them. Lane Kiffin did not leave UF/LSU to come coach at Tennessee then recruit them to Tennessee will they were committed to their former school - and also lie (on the record) saying he wouldn't recruit any of our current commits (yet even called EE's that were on campus).

He used the Garza situation intentionally to get Loften to visit. I guarantee Loften did not contact USC first about visiting.

I completely agree. Just because someone commits to UT doesn't mean that other coaches shouldn't be allowed to contact them. Just let it happen and hope the recruit makes the right choice for them.

First, Markeith Ambles, then Garza, then the prospective DC Barry, now their wanting Loften to come out. It might be time to move on, but you have to admit that it burns that the little bastard keeps putting his hands all over everything that we're trying to get...and getting it. It has to stop somewhere and I really hope this kid comes to UT instead of out there with that character (or lack of character). He can make a difference for us, yet, and of course, Lane Kiffin comes calling... you can't say it doesn't burn that he won't get out of our back yard after sticking the knife in our backs. :banghead2:

He should go...look at their roster...look at the facilities...check out the limo...check out their HOstess program(we all know ya can't spell SUCK w/o USC) then think it over. Weigh the options. No Biggie.

That's exactly how I see it also. It would be different if he didn't ditch us before NSD. And the fact he knows how many scholarships down we are. I know its part of the buisness, but have a little respect for a program that gave you a oppurtunity & stood behind you, after all the BS, he put our program through. It won't hurt SC to miss out on some prospects, because they have depth, we on the other hand don't. And that tool knows that more than anyone.

He sure does. And I think he's deliberately trying to hurt our program at this point. My opinion is that Willie Mack was to stay behind as a very deliberate and planned move. I honestly think he was going to see who he could scab off UT to come with him to USC. Now that the light has shown on him, I don't put anything past that weasel.

And you believed him when he said he would not recruit current recruits? Are you really suprised that he would use Garza in this way? Nothing that dbag does suprises me. But what are we going to do about it; Loften is still visiting USC. I have confidence that DD will keep him here.

From what I've read, some of our current players came close to physical violence against the idiot when he tried to talk to them as he was leaving. It's a real shame one of them didn't beat the holy s#it out of that S.O.B. because he really, really needs it.

I'm guessing CDD is visiting him when he visits with Glass, Glass said something about CDD going to Irving for something after he visits him. Per article on TOS

Kiffin is petty. With little to no chance of landing some of our more solid commits, he would still bring them in for a visit in spite.

I am with Tripper, everytime we get a new coach we immediatly start a thread "What ____ school recruits is the new coach going to sway to the Vols!?!?!"

Kiffin is just doing his job, recruit the best possible players to USC. I am sure he has a bunch of visits to use this weekend and is trying to bring in any players that he can. It makes sence that he would be recruiting alot of players interested in us, BECAUSE THIS IS THE SCHOOL THAT HE COACHED AT LAST YEAR. I doubt he is just trying to stick it to us. His new DB coach is the one that got Loften to check out the Vols, everyone needs to take a chill pill.

Guess none of these people want Da'Rick Rogers either. I have faith in Loften, because he probably got some interest from the old staff but they were gone when he committed here.

If he wasn't sure about us by January 23, he would've just held out until NSD to announce.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I have a bad feeling guys.

"I had interest in USC from the get-go," Loften told USCfootball.com. "I never got interest from them, but with coach Garza going there, I told him I would like to visit. I'd like to see how it is. I mean, it's USC.

"Everybody knows about USC. It's a good school with great tradition. Distance isn't a problem for me. I've got family in California - I've got family everywhere.

"I've got relatives in Oakland and in L.A. I've got my grandpa, my uncle and a few more relatives living out there. I went to Los Angeles when I was little, so it's not like I haven't been out there before either."

Garza, who left UT suddenly last week after one season as defensive backs coach to join USC’s staff, helped the Vols secure a commitment from Loften, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound safety from Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas. Loften said Garza called his high school this week to set up the visit to USC.

"Coach Garza is a real cool dude," said Loften. "He tells it like it is. Recruiting wise, I think he'd be a nice coach to play for. He's one of the coolest coaches I've ever met."

Loften maintained he is still committed to UT, but said he’ll announce his final decision on National Signing Day on Feb. 3. Loften said his decision will come down to UT and USC.

"I'm committed to Tennessee," Loften said. "But I don't think it's a problem for me to see what else is out there. USC will probably be the last visit I take before I wrap things up.”

Now that I have posted that, here is a little optimism. Just heard John Bryce from VQ say he did not see anything coming out of the USC visit with Loften. He said when it is all said and done Loften might have interest in USC, but he didn't think USC would have room for him. He said they already have higher rated def. backs committed and are deep at the position already. TIFWIW.....

They will probably try and tell him some of them are going to be shifted to LB:cray:

Let him look around...all of these kids need to look around as much as possible to make sure they are making the right decision.

Now that I think about it, I don't recall anyone taking issue with Da'Rick and Nash visiting UT...

Thanks for stopping by.

And by the way.....is anyone else a little perturbed the former regime seems to be targeting mostly our recruits and committments more so than others?

Not so much that they are targeting them mostly...but that they are doing just that after Kiffin said he would not. He also said he wouldn't even be targetting the same players mostly (untruth!):banghead2:

He didn't get that done by himself. If Garza called him up trying to sell Tennessee Tech Loften would've told him to stick it. It doesn't hurt when you're peddlin' one of the elite athletic programs in the country. Don't cut The University of Tennessee football program short.

How does that compare with this situation? Garza was recruiting for us on our dollar, and then sneaks out without a word and begins trying to pull those same kids somewhere else. Rogers and Nash did not have a coach they had committed to, come to Tn and start recruiting them.

Totally different!

Yep! It's just like Orgeron calling our EEs and telling them not to go to class. WMG has pulled the same thing..recruited someone on our dollar, got in tight with them, and now is trying to use the position he gained on our payroll to lure the recruit somewhere else. I hope Loften stays with us, but this is the recruiting equivalent of insider trading. There should be some NCAA rules preventing such a thing unless you were dismissed from your position by the university that previously employed you. What they're doing, and have done, is dirty and unethical...but this surprises noone anymore. Let's just see if the NCAA actually does anything to its darling USC for all its violations.

Once again. Recruits shuold be commiting to the University/campus/academics/program/city and not position coaches.

I agree 100% with you that they were initially recruited on TN's dime. My biggest problem with the former staff is the fact that they built all of these relationships on UT's dime and are now trying to sway the kids to USC...especially after Kiffin said they wouldn't recruit our kids (unless of course they called them which is BS). But, Loften said that he already had interest in USC to begin with.

I've seen way too many people on these boards turning their back on him (and other kids) simply because he's interested in seeing what USC is all about. I've seen the same thing from UGA fans regarding Rogers and Nash and their visit to UT.

No, we don't have any former UGA staff that recruited Rogers to UGA, and it is different in that perspective.

Bottom line, I think people need to chill out and stop being so hypocritical when it comes to recruits shopping around. It happens to everyone...
