‘23 EE Bowl Practices

The Vols are expected to have 14 of their 16 mid-term enrollees in for bowl practice, according to VQ:

Nate Robinson
Cristian Conyer
Rickey Gibson
Jordan Matthews
Jeremiah Telander
Jalen Smith
Sham Umarov
Nathan Leacock
Nico Iamaleava
John Slaughter
Jack Luttrell
Ethan Davis
Vyson Lang
Caleb Herring

Both Cam Seldon and Daevin Hobbs will be mid-termers but won’t be in for bowl practice.
So for just what we have coming as EE who I see having a shot to contribute next season:

Nico (duh)
Dynamic RB/WR hybrid (Cam)
An instant impact TE (Davis so needed)
Key OL and DL lineman to get early weight training (Hobbs especially)
5 DBs!!! (All 3 corners!!!!)

Instant help and injection of talent at very important spots!!!

So excited to see so many getting to work our with the team for about 30 days. With a handle on what to expect and winter S& C they will be ahead come Spring practice. You can't ask for anything better than that knowing our needs in the defensive secondary and also QB.

So can someone confirm exactly when these kids can start participating in bowl practice? Do they have to wait until the sign for ESD (12/21) or can they start before then?

Jack Lutrell is going to do big things in the Secondary for us in the coming years. I am calling it.
Hope you’re correct on this. I’ve watched 1 of his games and a good bit of his game film and he looks like a baller…in HS. DB, WR, Punter, Punt returner, and helped his team get to the semifinal game.
Of coarse I also watched one of our ex QB ‘s rip the state apart, win a SC and can’t get on the field at UNLV

I think if they are enrolled they dont have to wait. ESD is for scholarship papers. Maybe there are special rules for bowl gamed

My question is, do they have to go through the acclimation period like in the fall and spring before full pads.
They do have to go through acclimation period, which is why the significance of them participating in bowl practice (on top of knowing very little of the playbook) is way overblown. The benefit to it is moreso that they get to go through a practice week and see what that looks like as a college player, including the meetings, film study, etc.

But if they enroll before ESD, that would mean no one else can come steal them from us. I'd like to see Gibson enroll today.

I thought they had to sign before joining but the VQ guys made it seemed like that wasn't the case. Mentioned it would be hard for other schools to flip our recruits before early signing day if they are in Knoxville practicing with the team.

I guess I didn't answer your question lol.

Perhaps the most important is getting 2 potential mlb's learning the system early. The SC game has me worried for how bad life without Jeremy Banks can be.

UNC's 2022 Early Enrollees Have Option to Participate in Bowl Practices

This article goes into some discussion regarding the OP.

Per NCAA rules, an incoming player can practice during an "official vacation period" immediately before initial enrollment as long as the student was accepted by the school in a regular, full-time program of studies, isn't still enrolled at their previous school, and is eligible under school and NCAA requirements.

"What happens is in this rule, when you are through with your work in high school, you have to have acknowledgment from the high school. We have to have a letter in an email that says, 'He is done with his high school work,' then he can come on our campus after signing date," head coach Mack Brown said in a press conference last week. "He can practice with our team here. He can't get bowl gifts, but he can practice. When you leave your campus to go to the bowl site, they cannot go to the bowl site with us. So they would only be practicing on our campus."
