“Ten times against Alabama” is an absolute exaggeration. UT may have done it a couple of times and I don’t like it when they do it either. But NOBODY does it with the frequency that Ole Miss does it. They have done it in every game against decent opponents. If you think otherwise, you aren’t paying attention. And it all goes back to Kiffin’s sleazy character. Period.

Actually it’s not an exaggeration. 12 times is the exact number. Now of those 12 there’s no telling how many were legit, and there in lies the rub.

The RT Miss St got from Alabama is no match for Sam Williams. That dude has been a force vs everyone this yr. I know Jordan Davis will get SEC Def player of the year but I’d vote for Williams.

Yep. Just look at the situations it happens in. There isn’t anyone even close.

It sucks and I hate it but I don’t fault coaches for taking advantage of the rules. The rules need to change to where the player has to sit until the next change of possession.

But the problem is how do you judge if a player is flopping or not? That’s why it has to be applied to every player that goes down.
Pretty easy when you see them look to the sideline and then all of a sudden collapse onto the ground after the other offense has just started moving the ball. Refs make judgement calls on every play. Let’s not overthink it

Taking advantage of the rules isn't sleazy. It's his job. To leverage every possible advantage. He doesn't write the rules. Stop being pissy with him bc he is doing his. Giving his team every legal advantage he can to win is what every coach does. And I think we can all agree we have done it too. So now we are just crying bc "they do it more." Grow up.

If a player flops, sitting out one series should be the absolute minimum. If a player is truly hurt, he probably needs to sit out a series just for protection. I don’t see a downside if they put that rule in. Personally I’d make it two series.

Being unsportsmanlike might not be against the rules but it can still be and should be widely ridiculed

Coaches will gladly sacrifice a player for 6-7 plays to get numerous TOs. I think the solution is each team gets a number of injury TOs (players can’t go to sideline). After that, injuries cost you one of your game TOs. Coaches wont waste injury TOs until a player is truly injured. And they’ll have players capable of walking off, to walk off instead of falling down.

That’s my point.

If they are truly injured than sitting out a series is for their benefit. If they are faking then they are punished.
You're asking a player to make the judgement before they go down. Is this a serious injury I need to be out for...... or should I try to play through it.

You're asking for increased injuries if you create a situation where a player feels they'll hurt the team if they go down, so they may try to play legit injured.

I agree. There's flopping and it's a lousy practice but I don't want young men trying to tough out a serious injury because they are afraid to be out of the series.

It sucks but I don't see a clear solution.

I'd do this for flops. Give each team 5 timeouts per half. 30 second timeouts. With each stoppage of play for an injury, make them use a timeout. After they run out of timeouts, with each stoppage of play, the team with the injury can only substitute for the injured player. Players remain on the field and only medical staff and water boys are allowed on the field for the team having the injury. Other team can make substitutions in this situation. Would that work?

“It’s his job” to cheat? Call it what you like. It’s flaunting the rules. Hopefully they are going to change the rules so that his sleazy character won’t be tempted in the future. And trust me, he is sleazy. You don’t want to get into some of his escapades when he was in Knoxville.

It's not cheating. And you know we have done it too. So stop. You sound like my kid when she was 8.
And I don't doubt he's sleazy. But not for this. He's taking advantage of a crap rule. Again, that's literally his job. Finding advantages that are legal.

I don’t want to give the refs another judgment call they can f up. Just make it cut and dry and keep it out of the zebras hands.

I mean I agree with a lot of your points. It’s not really cheating, it’s cheap. Every team does it occasionally when they can’t get off the field. Ole Miss just seems to use it a lot to change the flow of the game. It’s cheap as hell to me and honestly if Heupel were using that tactic routinely I wouldn’t agree with it either. And then again at the same time Kiffin is doing everything he can to win, like it or not.
