But it is a vote on slavery because of how the state constitution reads. Current language: "slavery and involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, are forever prohibited in this state."
New language after the amendment passes: "Slavery and involuntary servitude are forever prohibited. Nothing in this section shall prohibit an inmate from working when the inmate has been duly convicted of a crime."
I want to go down there one day and root through the archives or genealogical society.. but most of the Macons stayed in North Carolina, so maybe I should look there it’s difficult doing genealogical traces because they didn’t include a lot through maternal lineagesI moved into Monroe County 6 years ago but lived in Macon for the previous 30 years.
