agreed he burned all his political capital getting his social policies passed while he'd have been better off waiting till he got reelected. scares me because this means he is a true believer in this crap i.e. even willing to not get reelected. clinton might have wanted to be a socialist, but he was pragmatic enough to realize it wouldnt' get him reelected.

There may very well be backlash, but the #1 reason his poll ratings are going down is the lack of improvement in the economy.

followed closely by his overall unwillingness to get into policy specifics and he continual suggesting that government is the solution.

The economy is huge but I think the middle is taking a hard look at his "solutions" to the economy and having second thoughts.

If we are using this as the standard why were we being told a year or so that we were in a recession before we actually were?

I think it was because you don't know for sure until the GDP numbers are out and that's, what, three months old data at the outside? So people were saying, hey, I think we are going to see negative growth for this quarter and next, meaning we are in recession.

yes. both were unbelievably stupid. glad we are on the same page here.

Bush and Obama would have both been infinitely better off saying "I think the worst of this is behind us. Much more work to do, but we feel like we are in control of the situation and that we should see some improvement."

Agree?

It is odd. I'm surprised his support has remained as high as it is considering:

Hardcore Dems think he's not doing enough

Moderate Dems and Independents think he's overspending and over-reaching

The young are realizing his rhetoric was just that and he's not a "movement" any more.

If he were politically smarter, he'd have devoted all the HC efforts into economic recovery. If successful, he would have been a true God and HC, cap-and-trade, etc. would have been a piece of cake.

Some group of them are not going to be satisfied, this is true. But Bush had the same problem, as doo all presidents. The outliers in their party have high hopes for someone who thinks like they do, a true believer. When their guy turns out to be a politician just like all the others, its sort of a letdown.

This is where Obama is making his mistake IMO. The only platform he had to run on was change, he didn't have the political background and record and used that to his advantage. He sold the people on reforming the way things are done in Washington, which many on both sides of the isle would actually agree on.

His problem is that his past wasn't very favorable in the eyes of moderates on both sides of the isle, he was able to make up for that with promising a change in Washington politics and they were willing to look past it believing he would deliver on that change. Now that he is in office they realize no real change is forth coming, it is politics as usual.

This is where you see the shift in his numbers most IMO, it is a gradual realization that he is not going to be the president they thought he was, the policies are not the biggest problem for the moderates as it relates to Obama IMO. It is the way he has tried to implement them and his failure to follow through with his biggest selling point.
