Electronic Ticketing

Hehehe. Cut back on the naivety.

It's the price we pay to live in post 9/11 America that the govt can spy pretty easily on all of us and there is little interesting about me and mine and I do my best to keep it that way. I no longer fear they know too much about me, I expect it.

I see privacy as like the IRS. Do your bit and don't make yourself noticeable.

As an aside, I'd like to see a verse in "Try that in a small town" about stopping at the "Adult Toys" store, because in a small town every holier than thou Baptist biddy for 20 miles around your little town will be on the phone talking about seeing your car in the parking lot.

The best surveillance in the world is done by busybodies in small towns.
I am not naive. I work in IT and have a very good feel for the electronic surveillance capabilities of modern society. That said, just because we have already lost so much is no reason to just continue to meekly give up even more. Paperless and cashless transactions are a serious step toward the loss of what little remaining autonomy the individual retains

I find it hard to claim the "high ground" when I suspect my family is like a lot of families that use "direct debit" to pay my electric, water, etc. It's just convenient and easy to have an account that handles the regular monthly bills. With the price of stamps, I doubt most folks write a check and pay bills or pay in person. Almost everyone handles any investments online. It can be stupid expensive to use a broker.

So, I'm not "losing anything" I've not already given away. I try not to be a hypocrite.

After seeing this thread, looked up how to get Apple Wallet since I have an iPhone, but apparently you have to have Apple Pay to use Apple Wallet, which I don’t. Then they talk about Apple certificates, and Passkits. Delta Airlines doesn’t work with Apple Wallet, but Ticket Master does. It all looks complicated. 🤪
Ok, I got it to work. I know I tried before and my bank didn’t accept Apple Pay, so now it does. Don’t know when I’ll use it, but I’ve got Apple Pay and Wallet, just in case.

GO VOLS!!!

Never heard of it. Is it a good quality and safe site?
In business since 2011 and accredited by the BBB for what that's worth. Also offers a fairly robust guarantee. I've personally used it for years now and dozens of purchases. Never had a single problem. I don't even use other secondary sites.

You should be good to remove Apple Pay if you’re not interested in using it. The wallet just holds your Apple Pay card + whatever else (sports/movie tickets, Insurance cards, Delta sky miles, gift cards…. etc).

Thanks for the info, but read you had to have the Pay to use the Wallet. Delta was not listed in the airline apps compatible. Just got it there, so we’ll see how it goes. Haven’t tried to buy anything yet. 🙂

Haven’t been to Neyland since 2019. What is the best site to purchase tickets from? Ticketmaster, Stubhub, or Seat Geek?

Wished it was the old way of purchasing.
Ticketmaster. I was on UTSports.com yesterday, and they even have a disclaimer that not even StubHub, SeatGeek, etc. are guaranteed for entry. Only Ticketmaster. I also like Ticketmaster, because they include fees in the pricing instead of having it as a surprise add-on at the end.

Whoa! Thanks for the heads up. That’s the stuff I worry about, haha.

Sorry if this has already been covered-- how does scalping work at Neyland now? Is it a thing of the past?

We used the Wallet 14 months ago when we went to Costa Rica on Delta a nd to Michigan last Winter. Had no problems with either flight.

Virtually all Americans have a Social Security Number. Control is already established and has been for a generation or so. Good or bad, mostly bad, but that ship is well past the port.

I'd like to see fingerprint tickets, especially for concerts. No more scalpers, resellers, etc. You buy your ticket at a location with a fingerprint scanner (they're cheap) and that finger gets you in. Period. No phone, ticket, nothing but your finger will work or is needed.

You kidding? Aftermarket tickets (aka scalping) has become a monster industry - even Ticketmaster is into that after seeing all the money they were leaving on the table. I got my A&M tickets on StubHub, and the first email I got from them was "ready to sell your tickets?". They resell, then resell again and again. What a racket, and all "legal".

One shouldn’t be required to purchase or own an expensive appliance just to attend a sporting event. Someone Amish should sue. This is just another stepping stone toward a cashless society. Soon your entire life and everything you think you posses will be at the whim of an unknown server farm. Maybe soon we can all just have a mark on our wrist or forehead to do all of our commerce 😬
I’m a boomer too and I agree. Having said a similar thing to my sons, both UT alum, and almost verbatim what you said, they said “ go to WWW.AMISH.COM, and see where it gets you. We are dinosaurs.

I have not bought the new digital tickets now required at UT stadium before. I reached out to someone on craigslist. He had four tickets for the Austin Peay game. He said I could Venmo him the money and he would print tickets for me that I could pick up or he would mail to me. My understanding was that no paper tickets were allowed at the stadium. Am I wrong? This is all new to me. Is he correct? Or is it or something wrong with this offer?. Thanks for your help.

Once he has your money, you are completely at his mercy. And if he is scamming you, you are screwed.

No way, no how would I do this.

As others have posted, use Seat Geek, Stub Hub or another legit aftermarket ticket dealer.

Also, most venues will not accept any paper tickets anymore. The fact that he offered that raises even more red flags IMO.

Paper tickets were sold and allowed last year for season tickets holders. I paid an extra 50 for them. I am not sure if that's an option this year I haven't checked.

the problem with online tix is that you pay a fee for each ticket sold, no the transaction. buy 4 tix you pay 4 separate fees. it's a ripoff.

Update. I have received my four tickets from GeekSeat. They are on my phone and are viewable. So far so good. Now I am trying to get them in Apple Wallet. Wallet is a preloaded app on my phone. When I try to transfer my tickets to Wallet I get a message that I must set up Touch ID. I click Continue But the next step never comes up. How do I go about this? I have an iPhone 10. Thanks for your help.

So I'm only guessing here, but I think you need to make sure Touch ID is disabled as a feature for Apple Wallet and then try to add them again. If you go into the iPhone Settings app and then tap Touch ID / Passcode, you should see toggles to turn on/off Touch ID for different features, including Apple Wallet. I think you want to make sure the one for Apple Wallet is disabled, and frankly, unless you wanted to use Touch ID in the future, I'd recommend disabling them all. I always disable those settings that when I set up a new iPhone, and I've never had to use Touch ID for digital tickets - just my passcode for the device.

The Titans now use Geek Seat as official vendor. At Friday preseason game, the tickets could be directly scanned from that web site at gate. For Saturday game, my Ticketmaster tickets and parking pass have all been moved to the Wallet.
