Hate to do this, and hopefully he is wrong because this may sting, but here is the latest from Rob Lewis:

Guys, nothing is final yet, but I'm starting to feel pretty strongly right now that it's going to be Duke.

I've been pretty cautious about making a prediction for the last couple of days, as I'm sure you've noticed, but tonight I'm hearing from some sources I consider trustworthy that it's going to be the Blue Devils and I feel pretty comfortable making that call now. Something could always change, but right now I'm 95 percent certain he's headed to Duke and I think he's probably already let Coach K know that.

That hurts. If this happens, I'm starting to have doubts Pearl can land a top tier recruit. He seems to get the good ones but hasn't gotten a great one yet.

McDonald said today that Pearl was in town for lunch so I would assume he went to visit EW. And if EW has indeed decided on Duke per Rob Lewis, he would have had to have told Bruce Pearl straight up, which I would imagine would be hard to do.
McDonald and a few other teammates have said he didn't want to stay in Memphis, so I would be shocked if he picked Memphis. Gregg Wooten said a month ago it was between UT and UVA. Of course a lot has happened since then, so it doesn't mean a whole lot now.
Not doubting Rob Lewis or anything, but I will believe he chose Duke after 4:00 on Friday. I'll ask Leslie in the morning what he thinks about where EW is going.

what does it matter how many stars you have next to your name? if you have good enough of a coach then you're going to be able to make really good players out of 3 and 4 stars players

Very true, and we lost those players waiting on EW. Maybe we can get the Lithuanian shooter in NV that HVW mentioned.

I have a couple friends who are friends with his friends but long story short, they said he has been telling them "he will be on national tv alot" next year. They think Duke too. :(

man we passed on a lot of good players and now we aren't even going to land this guy. I think we should either get the players to commit earlier or drop them and take the guy who really WANTS to play for UT.

We were probably a bit nieve thinking we can recruit over Duke and Memphis just yet. We havent been good long enough but it will come.

it looks EW to Duke is pretty certain. this is so depressing. everyone was saying that UT was the team to beat and Duke comes out of nowhere. i felt like he was going to be wearing orange next year for sure. i followed this recruitment real close, read all the stories, only for him to choose the Blue Devils.:cray:

Chism chose UT over Memphis. And, if we never hold out for a bigtime recruit, we'll never get one. So, we didn't get EW. We'll get the next one.

What do you want the coaches to do? Only go after lower-tier prospects? We don't know what EW was telling Pearl. It sounds like he was undecided until this week. When do you propose UT will be ready to battle for the top 20 players? Perhaps UT will reach the Final Four this year. That would go a long way towards getting a top 20 recruit.

Ramar was a top 20 recruit (#20 in the nation actually) and the #5 SG coming in the last rivals 150 rankings for the class of 06....

Just sayin'.

Ramar was an absolutely lucky pickup though. He just kind of feel into our lap after the stuff with Uconn.

Pearl is now 0/2 with the prime time recruits if this is true... this one really stings, especially after the other prospects going else where.

Jeez - Makes me hate Coach K and his arrogant self even more now. :banghead2:

It sucks because of how hard Bruce recruited EW only to get shot down by a big prospect again.... EW dad said we recruited him the hardest... Oh well we move on.. We have renaldo and philip, so bring on some backup guards!

What sucks is how bad we need guards and none of the other schools did ( especially Duke who needed frontcourt recruits) but oh well.

Wayne, Duke, and Ramar were all top 40 recruits.

Ramar didn't 'fall into our lap' after the stuff with UConn we had to recruit against Arkansas (who, by the way, is a much better, storied, program than ours)

Bruce is a fine recruiter. You can't expect him to come in and (without even getting to an elite 8 or final 4 yet) start getting top 10 or top 15 recruits. The very fact that he pulled in three recruits in the top 40 in one class (and had a top 5 class overall) the year after he arrived says a LOT about the man.

Not to mention last year in a down year he sitll got a 4 star SG/SF and a 6'10" center. The class of 08 we have a 6'11 center (4 star) and Renaldo Woolridge (4 star).

who said he was headed to Duke? did EW say he was headed to Duke? if not then we know nothing yet, its still up in the air until friday so everybody hold off on the freaking out for a couple days
