thx hat. got it - and I agree with whoever posted that we should just embrace this. i don't want bruce's swagger to hurt the program, but I like the notion that we actually have an identity now.

Hat, I should have been more specific when I asked about playing time. I was thinking more that players at the level of E. Jones and T. Holloway may not want to join a roster that will hopefully still include Ramar, Tatum, Prince, and Tabb. A Top 20 recruit would be far less concerned.

Suddenly, we do have a deep frontcourt. It looks like we will soon have a more traditional lineup (2 guards instead of 3-4). Frontcourt depth replacing backcourt depth should also help because of the 3-pt line getting pushed back.

There really isn't anyone out there who has distinguished themself to this point. If someone has a real breakout senior season, I'm sure the staff would pursue them. As for junior college players, they'll monitor the season. A lot of quality JCs don't sign until Spring. I think the staff will be content to hold the grants if they can't find someone they really like.

Matta does an absolutely fabulous job of identifying prospects at an early age. Also, parents love him because he's as honest as anyone in the game and his players graduate.

It's just crazy how he brings in top 5 players 3 and 4 years in advance like this.

And I really don't expect CBP to find someone to fill the EW scholly for the fall. He screwed up this time just like he did with Hickson. He probably could have had Jones(and may still get him) but made the same mistake he said he wouldn't make again. It's nice to play the "we are only recruiting you" card but it can obviously bite you. Let's just hope we can jump on board with some uncommitted stud because I really don't want to bank on signing another big sleeper or landing a big transfer.

Eshaunte and Terrell never had a firm offer on the table. Bruce wasn't all that impressed with his recent evaluation of Eshaunte.

If he can't take both and thinks he has a reasonable shot at the better player, its best to hold out for the better player. Williams is obviously special and obviously did strongly consider UT.

The people who are upset about Williams will be suicidal when Hall goes to Georgia Tech and McDonald goes to join Elliot in Durham.

I don't think that will be the case. We were in on Williams much longer than Duke and seemed to have an advantage over them for a while. Hall has been close to a GT commit for a while and I think we have slim to no chance with him. McDonald may show us some love but he has also been a Duke lean for a while.

Do you think there is a snowball's chance in hell that we can somehow get in the mix for Tyreke Evans, Willie Warren, or even Rotnei Clarke? I've heard that the Lithuanian is a smart player, a really good shooter, and has decent athleticism. That sounds somewhat like Lofton. We still lose 3 guards and have a wing and a post committed.

whew boi, i will be one of those people if that crap happens.. or maybe i will just hate Duke even more... u can never hate Duke too much

I can't imagine anyone getting in on Evans this late in the game. You don't just show up all of a sudden and jump line on guys like Cal and Pitino.

I figured Evans would be a huge longshot. I would take any of those 3, Jones, or the Lithuanian at this point. There are probably a few others but we desperately need at least 1 guard in this class.

blah blah enough with recruiting. That stuff is boring anyways. Basketball in big orange country unofficially starts tomorrow night! I'm psyched. Recruiting is the last thing on my mind slightly behind what I am going to drink at lunch tomorrow.

Agreed. If we can get one quality guard and don't lose Ramar early, saving the other scholly for '09 would be a good plan, especially considering there is only one available for that class so far.
