Elliot Williams

What might have been with EW? :cray: What might be with Pearl, Lofton, Jujuan, Ramar, Tyler, Wayne, Duke, etc., etc., etc? :yahoo: Like I said earlier, we didn't get this one. We'll get the next one. In the meantime, let's enjoy being ranked ahead of Duke. I hope to see the Vols meet and exceed expectations this season.

Maybe it will be McDonald next year.
That would bring me happiness.

Yeah, maybe we make a final four appearance (beating Duke on the way) and E-Mail realizes his mistake.

Any word on what Jamont Gordon thinks of what it would have been like to play for the Vols? :) Kids make their decisions for many different reasons, but it's still sweet to beat those who turned us down.

I'm not going to bash a kid for not coming here, but he could have been special at UT. At Duke he'll be just another 5 star. Maybe he'll make a name for himself out of all the greats they've had there, maybe not.

That's what I was about to say 19. Well, at least Bruce can still use the whole "no McDonald's boys" line. Whomever said his recruitment was like Hickson's was close. I still think EW is smarter, Pearl just screwed up again by putting all of his eggs in one basket instead of pushing for another player.

it is what it is..they're still Duke with all the banners hanging from the rafters and that has to sway a kid somewhat. I wonder if Bruce will go juco now?

At Duke, he'll make 4 trips to the NCAA (if he doesn't leave early), have just about every game nationally televised, be ranked in the top 10 every year, probably have at least 1 shot in the final 4, and probably have an excellent shot at getting in the NBA.

At Tennessee he has a shot at going to the NCAA and might advance to the sweet 16.

We've had a couple decent years. Last year could have been really special, but it is what it is with a team mostly made of Freshmen. We got extremely lucky landing T. Smith and JP. Bruce had a magical recruiting class 2 years ago that really kickstarted his success to the next level. But we don't get McDonalds like EW until we show we can win the SEC, win the SEC tourny, make a deep run (final 4) in the NCAA, and most importantly see Ramar, Lofton, Chism, T. Smith playing in the NBA. Recruits are all thinking about the next level and how quick they can get there. Bruce has done an awesome job with what he's got. He could very easily win the whole thing this year, but to keep the program consistantly where it is now, we need to see these guys playing in the big show.

what does it matter how many stars you have next to your name? if you have good enough of a coach then you're going to be able to make really good players out of 3 and 4 stars players

I agree, however basketball recruiting and football recruiting are very different. When did I say anything about stars next to a guy's name?

im not talking logically tonite because im pissed off, im just going off emotion so sorry if i offend anyone

It will pass, popcorn.

If you're a longtime Vol fan, you can look at this as a big step in the resurgence of the UT bball program. We want to set this thing up for long-term success, so any single player doesn't make or break what's happening here.

Think about it: TB and Pratt renovations, Pearl and his staff and what they've done already. A great crop of sophomores already in place, and some absolute stud recruits in the next couple of classes. One or two will drop for us, and we'll continue to see this program rise.

Tough luck on EW - it wasn't meant to be. I wish he'd chosen UVA over Duke, but oh well.

Gillispie, K, and Mick Cronin have taken Bruce to school in this recruiting cycle. Maybe if he spent more time hitting the pavement and less time preening for the Sports Illustrated cameras he wouldn't be about to sign a completely average class.

I suppose "average" refers to who we are getting vs. who was looking at us at the beginning of the summer.

For a program that has designs on being a consistent top 20 team, Jurick and Woolridge is a class that rates as nothing better than average.

Awesome...Awesome...Awesome post!!!!!

What kind of a recruiter is Bruce? Does he need some good assistants in that area - or if he decides to turn it on, can he be effective in that area?

Bruce is a good recruiter. He's not, however, in the same league as a guy like Gillispie.

Hat, could playing time be hurting recruiting right now? The cupboard is pretty full. Of course, in 1-2 seasons, it could empty very quickly, which is what has me concerned.

Bruce also doesn't coach Kentucky where multiple championships have been won. We will be fine, it aint the end of the world. I'm sure we'll search Juco and we may even get a recruit to a school who loses their coach. Bruce is a damn good recruiter, and more importantly he develops the players!!!

I agree. Gillispie proved his ability to recruit when he got players to go to TAMU, but yeah, at UK, it's that much easier for an already great recruiter.

Bottom line: The Vols need to live up to expectations this season. Florida is rebuilding, and UK will be good but does not have as much talent as UT. That will change soon though, so Bruce needs to take advantage of this opportunity. An SEC title and a Final Four run would do a lot to help recruiting. And, could we please make it to Saturday at the SEC Tournament???
