Elzy no longer on staff

"...because she was never taken out of the game."../.Yes, Meighan Simmons was taken out of the game many, many times...saw many of her games...was one of my favorite lady vols ever. She almost single handedly beat Louisville when The Yum center opened her freshman year. Pat loved Meighan, said she never saw a shot she didn't like, and said that affectionately, but some speculated that one of the assistant coaches didn't like Meighan...don't know whether true or not. Meighan wasn't afraid to take "the big shot" when many on those teams were. She took a lot criticism, she could drive to the rim and create her own shot...and she was very frustrated with the "get the ball tpo the posts" at any cost system. She loved
Tennessee, she loved Pat, she was one of the toughest LV players ever pound for pound.

Well I appreciate that you are an over the top Meighan fan.... with her style, taking almost every shot.... seldom involving her teammates in the offensive play many times... just jacking it up.... I do not see how fans can appreciate that form of team ball..... but I do know full well when not to press my point.... I think she was a terrible team player for the Vols, but I respect that you think she was wonderful

don't be thinking that :) a lot of us on here like your post,I know I do :hi:

I don't get all the CHW hate either, people act like getting to the Elite 8 is an easy thing to do,it isn't,I thought during this past season, that it was a lack of execution by the players, the open shots were there to be made,we all seen them consistently turn the ball over on some really dumb ass pass attempts

if Tyler had wanted to be groomed for the head coach job at UT,he should have went into coaching at UT,which he didn't do,I'm not sure if he would want to come to UT and put up with a crap load of pressure just because of his last name from the Fans

he may come to UT,who knows? we will have to wait and see who CHW decides to hire,I'm sure her first list will probably be heavy on former Lady Vols, but that is just a guess on my part

Gubment, did you watch any games this season? With 7 McDonald's All Americans getting to the FF should be a cakewalk. The team has poor fundamentals, poor passing, mediocre rebounders, they don't hustle, no sense of offense or flow, often times selfish, poorly motivated, poor game management, they pout, they don't improve as players or team during the course of the season. We beat two of the FF teams. Doesn't that tell you any thing? Let me answer that for you. They improved, we didn't.

Hokievol - The highlighted part of your statement is factually incorrect -

Geno is an example, accused of sexual harassment by the head of security for the USA Women's Olympic Team, charges eventually dropped, settled out of court...

There was no settlement.

Sorry I misled you, Brassie. I read that the charges were dropped, and I "assumed" they were settled out of court. Do you have information that she was possibly "paid off"? I don't think the NCAA ever investigated...some said he might have had "friends" at NCAA headquarters who intervened on his behalf...

"Yet, some people want to judge her for the process, rather than the actual result."...The result was that she is the head coach of a LV team that lost more games than any other LV team in LV history...with one of the most talented teams ever assembled in LV history! She has a losing record against UT Chattanooga! She signed 0...0...0...players for the incoming class. She pouts and sits at the end of the bench in the 2nd half of a game for heaven's sake. She had NO head coaching experience...NONE. The PROCESS is very troubling to LV fans who have followed this team for decades! And the RESULTS weren't all that great...the first time that I ever turned off the TV during a game when watching, because the RESULTS were too often very ugly...and maybe the 1st time in history that people got up and excited the arena before the end of a game.

+++++++++++++++

It is her next few moves that will decide her future.

Sometimes you fall into a pile of manure and come out smelling like the rose bush it was encircling.

Sometimes its just crap.
:shaking2:

Won't take long before we'll know.

She has the opening to shake things up.
This is the turning point.

You don't have to respect my opinion...1 of only 5 players in LV history to score more than 2000 points in her career...yep, some fans appreciate players who can score. Associated Press SEC Player Of The Year-2014...Coaches SEC Freshman Of The Year-2011. Coaches All SEC First Team-2014.

I wasn't trying to be a wiseass,,,, I honestly and sincerely respect the opinion of others.... that is why I pull myself out of some things.... Meighan had a good career

let's not forget about the 3 injuries in the Sweet 16 either,i do believe it had a lot to do with there play,I personally think it would have made a difference in the game, now whether they would of won or not is a different thing

CHW teams seem to be really banged up when it is Tournament time or injuries occur during it

And the Ohio State team she beat was without their starting guard. Injuries are part of the game.

Twice in Holly's 4 years she had a path the Final Four gift-wrapped to her (when Louisville took out invincible Baylor, and this year with South Carolina), and she failed both times to capitalize. Given the circumstances, not getting past the Elite Eight is a huge disappointment....

But as you know, those awards are handed out to volume shooters based on ppg rather than effectiveness. A career 40% FG shooter and a .8 A\TO ratio aren't marks that would get most team history buffs excited. Simmons took more shots per game in her career than did Stewart for UConn, which is just whacked. Lawson at 46% and Hornbuckle and Stricklen at 44% are far better candidates the glowing reviews.

Weird thing is, go to Simmons' bio on the UTSports site and her career stats get flashed up for a split second before getting covered up by a video. Is there a reason for that?

wasn't Louisville when they were ran ragged from injuries ? for some reason I believe they were beat down and ran out of gas,I think it was from a lack of depth, but that has been way past 2 Saturdays ago :)

I don't know why or how Simmons becomes compared to a UConn player who didn't even play the same position...oh, well. What Simmons did do during her career was enough to be voted 2011 SEC Freshman Of The Year, and 2014 SEC Player Of The Year. In 2014, she actually averaged less minutes per game than did Massengale, was 2nd on the team behind Andraya Carter in steals, and, along with Massengale, led the team in free throw shooting at slightly above 83 percent. Why the comparison with the likes of Kara Lawson, and others, who played in different decades during a different time in LV history? The AP voters thought she did enough in 2014 to pick her as THE BEST in the SEC for that year.

When Al Brown was here in the 90s/early 2000s, only three of your four coaches could recruit off-campus. He did not recruit at all. When the rule changed, he elected to go to another program where he would not have to recruit.

I didn't know that about Al..he was a good speaker/motivator, I assumed he was good at recruiting also

We're all good, fellow LV fan. Meighan was recruited by Pat to shoot the basketball, be a volume scorer. She and Dean Lockwood visited Meighan in Cibolo, Texas...and committed a minor recruiting violation by allowing someone to take pics of their meeting in the gym...I believe the minor violation was self reported to the NCAA. I think Simmons was 2013 SEC Tournament MVP, not completely sure, but think so. She was a scoring guard...Hornbuckle in her day was more defensive minded and not a volume scorer. Meighan, in transition and on the fast break, was electric. Hornbuckle had more support, from the likes of a Candace Parker, and others. Meighan felt pressure to produce for her team and her coach, there were players on those teams reluctant to shoot. I wasn't deliberately attempting to give "glowing reviews" to Simmons, nor trying to compare her to other former LV guards...just give her proper credit for being a solid LV guard in her time at Tennessee, 2011-2014.

It wasn't an NCAA thing it was team USA. All but one of the players was from the W. The lawsuit was thrown out of court on a jurisdiction technicality. Auriemma and his lawyer adamantly denied any settlement. She promised an appeal but later withdrew it. I don't know if she was paid off but Auriemma publicly stated that there was no way in hell that he would settle. Auriemma is a lot of things but I have never known him to be a liar.

There was more to this story. The alleged victim was Kelley Hardwick an NBA security official. Auriemma had her removed from her position as head of security for the WNBA players on Team USA because of what he felt was inappropriate interaction with some team USA members. Most felt that her suit was retaliatory. She said that her dismissal was because she had resisted his repeated advances. There was no evidence of any kind mentioned and his alleged assault(s) (he supposedly tried to kiss her and she "mushed his face") was never reported by her. I think that's the damning part - there was nothing reported until after she was dismissed. She also sued the NBA for employment discrimination as part of the same incident. That too was dismissed.

I have seen Hardwick and I don't believe there is enough alcohol on the planet to make her attractive.
FWIW Every reporter in the horde stated that it was totally out of character for Auriemma to behave as she alleged. These are guys that have covered Auriemma for years and some of them are not exactly buddies with him.

I just checked out her picture via Google.
I don't find her unattractive at all.

Your slam of her is denied! resubmit.

After a few drinks in the bar, I'm bet more men than ole Gee no would hit it or try to. Where's Tyler?

Well, Brassie, you have a religious Saint on your hands in your head coach! Congratulations! I'll just keep the rumors that I've heard over the years about his marital impropriety to myself, usually involving too many drinks at the bar, and certain Division 1 head coaches who, at least, were female. After all, he is a class act. Playing with Kim Mulkey's bottom at the end of a game a couple of years ago, all in fun of course, made me wish that I had a daughter talented enough to get a UConn scholarship. No, I'm not implying that there was any hanky panky going on there with little Kim, just a harmless little grope. After all, she did seem amused, and apparently enjoyed it. He shows so much respect for women! No wonder Doris Burke, and others, seem so determined to convince women's basketball fans in every sentence that he is "the greatest"...but they should be very concerned with a certain Oklahoma head coach, it's what up front that counts, and she has the kind of profile that really stands out in Luigi's mind, from some accounts.

I enjoy taking an occasional shot at Geno, but to my knowledge, he is not guilty of below the belt bad behavior.... he has made it through 30 plus years..... and I do not agree with a lot of my brethren when saying "Oh, you know what you did"....

Hope the Tyler issue can remain with the participants and not stray into conjecture.... I like to see WCBB avoid national tabloid status..... fueled by forums such as ours.

Funny...come on Gule...don't drag Tyler into this! He likes younger women! He's probably searching the scriptures now for a solution to all of this...
