Embarrassed To Be a Tenn Vol

Last year it was the offense, this year its the defense. Defend why you think the Vols have the same problems "year after year".
kpt and Lex addressed this but I'll go ahead and add that IMO the year after year problem is complete lack of development. It has hurt this team in terms of depth and attitude. Someone gets hurt and there's no back-up. It means that Vols are having to learn OTJ rather than in practice. Remember last season when EA was the second coming based on practice performance but he folded like a cheap suit in game situations? Obviously, CPF and Co. are not teaching these guys how to be football players. As for the attitude/character part of player development, Fulmer himself said that he and the coaches did not get the team ready to play Arky. I take him at his word, especially considering the complete lack of any killer instinct being exhibited by a Fulmer team in quite some time. I think the coaches talk about goals and when it becomes obvious that those goals are out of reach the team implodes. It happened last year and now it's happened again this year.

Arky is FAR from a better team! This loss came from Crompton not knowing what o do! If Ainge is in we win! Arky only scored 3 points the second half.....Adjustments worked. Ainge is in we score 42 WR were open Crompton could not get the job done!

Ainge was in against the Gators. Arky was far more powerful than UF.

One of the missing keys has now returned home. We just need a few more like him. Up to and including the captain if need be. I just hate to gamble on the available alternatives.

I am personally embarrassed by Tenn's play. At what point did average play and 4-5th place SEC finishes become acceptable. Dont argue semantics about Tenn position in the SEC. Dont give me, "we were 5-6 last year...this is a good turn around." If Arkansas is #11 and than Tn is #25, at best, assuming credit is given for staying close in games with FL & LSU. While like any loyal Tenn fan I will continue to support my team, I have come to accept mediocrity as the norm. I recognize that TN has many injuries this year and play legitimate role in the current state of football in Tenn. However, does it not seem that injuries have become more of a consistent issue/excuse at Tenn than other 'perceived to be top programs?'

I bet you were the last one picked weren't you. Some one has to lose. I played for the vols and let me say that I was very proud of them on Saturday. Arkansas would have beaten USC had they had Mcfadden available. He is arguably the best back in the NCAA. Arkansas has always had one of the best offensive lines in college year in and year out. WE LOST. Get over it. I bet you think that we should be undefeated every year too. It is not possible. We still field one of the most feared teams every year. People are scared to play us. Many of my friends from other schools still tell me that TN week is the hardest practice week every year. That is why there is a next year. You win some and you lose some. Talk about sore losers. The team is taking the loss better some of the fans.

I'm sure USC, Ohio State, et al would be quivering at the prospect of playing a team that is 12-9 in their last 21 games.

I agree Arkansas is a much better team now then the one that lost to USC. UT is also a worse team now without Ainge and Coker available to go the entire game.

I agree that any arguement that justifies this season by comparing it to last year is weak. Even though I have been guilty of doing that.

But if you bring in a coach like Butch Davis or Nick Saban, they are only gonna use UT as a stepping stone to the next level. LSU and Miami haven't been able to easily replace them.

Its not that easy to go out and find a coach who is going to immediately take your team to the NC level. Most of the coaches you listed aren't going to be interesting in coaching at UT. Most of them are content where they are or are interested only in an NFL head coaching job.

Also UT doe not have a huge base of talent to recruit from. Its not like Texas or Florida in that respect. Having to go out and work your butt off recruiting players to come to UT is going to wear thin on some HC you might break in to UT from the NFL.

davis is UNC, we need to make a killer deal to rutgers coach.

I don't see Davis staying at UNC if he is successful and an NFL opportunity becomes available.

That's the catch 22. Bring in a top coach, it may be difficult to keep him. Replacing coaches is not always easy, look at Miami and LSU now. Florida didn't have success with Zook either.

Its not a great arguement for keeping a coach but continually changing HC's is not always good for the program.

can he recruit here?

Money is not the issue for this University...If UT wants a different coach, they just go out and get one. The board members and boosters aren't stupid, and neither is Hamilton. Fulmer may just announce his retirement before much longer and save the University the trouble. Some have speculated he has as little as 3 more years left in him, but as discontent grows, so might his desire to move on.

I do not know much about UNC, but what kind of talent does that program usually recruit, on par with Vandy or worse, what am I really asking is is he going to successful with that talent or just barley hold on until a better position is open

a good point, but for every bad coach hired, you have a carrol, tressel, petrino, rodriquez, and many more, we need a change to get back on top. i see no other way.

Our only benefit to them would be boosters. That being said wouldn't Fulmers contract have to bought out and Rutgers coach bought for everything to happen. Too much money involved I would say AD MH would go for someone a whole cheaper or closer to home. this school is doing renovations and building new buildings everywhere on campus. I would say more than likely nothing is going to happen until Fulmers contract is done. In the end money is the deciding factor

year in and year out Fulmer still can't win the big games. Florida, LSU, Georgia, Ark. almost every damn bowl game. It always seams that we are either out coached or just not prpaired. we here it every year with Fulmer that he just didn't have the team ready to play. Why the hell not? that is your job that you are getting paid millions of dollars a year to do.:furious3:
