Yeah i couldn't understand not putting more guys at the line. I could live with Auburn beating me with the pass. You know they're going to kill you with the run in that front.

Perhaps they thought the linebackers could flow to the ball and they could read the misdirection. Bad idea.

5-3 might have been better... :whistling:

Well we know that 3 down linemen lead to what 600 yard rushing? Yeah that didn't work very well.

Maybe I missed it and maybe I'm simply getting my Jimmy Hyams on here, but why on earth did they not come out of that? It was apparent very early in the game that the three-man front was going to get gashed. Several touchdowns and 600 yards worth of rushing later, and Auburn is headed to Pasadena.

Some of the offensive play-calling for Mizzou was pretty suspect, too, imo, especially late in the game.

The prevailing theory I've heard was that by lining up with 3 down over the interior linemen, they were going to force Auburn's run game to the outside, where they would then use their contain to keep Auburn from getting those big, gashing runs they usually get. They wanted Auburn to get into 3rd and 4 or 5 so that Marshall would have to throw more.

Obviously, it didn't work, as Auburn put on a game like I've never seen in a high-level championship.
