Yeah, I went with wife's family to World's Fair and I went over to the game. Great time. Seems like sooooo long since we used to beat Bammer occasionally.

Keep in mind...that win ended an 11 game losing streak to the Tide.

Past 6-8 yrs is very similar to the mid 70s to early 80s

Why on earth can't we hire one of the best coaches of their era? I pray CBJ is successful. But dang, bama's ADs are like wizards with some of these hires.

Missed the game that day because my idiot friend decided to have his wedding that day. Since I was a grooms men I didn`t get go to the game or even listen to it. If I had it to do over again I would have told my friend to kiss off.

Are they still married ? Makes it even worse if not.

Never will forget that game.

All during my college career, the Vols never beat bama. I was living in South Carolina at the time. On my drive over that day, I remember hearing Journey's "Don't Stop Believin". That song was in my head all day long and I took it to be an omen.

Eleven years losing to bama was miserable to have to take and most people didn't give UT a chance -- bama was 2nd ranked. The Vols didn't have a very good record but it was a capacity crowd and one of the louder games I can ever recall at Neyland in my 46 years of attending games. It was like a bomb exploded when the interception in the end zone occurred to preserve the victory. I even remember there were 17 seconds left to go in the game when that happened.

Great memory!

A couple of years ago, I had to go to a wedding in Oct. & I let those two youngins know that that's not a good time to get hitched during college football season. Of all the days in a year to pick for a wedding & allow for it to happen by the groom he should be slapped upside the head for not thinking outside the bun.

My sister got married on the day of the 2003 5 OT Tennessee victory... ugh.

Found out the result that night on ESPN, I thought I was going to have a heart attack on the 4th and 19.

It is hard to believe that was nearly 32 years ago. :whatever:

I noticed that even with the greats of Jenkins, White, Terry, Bates and Womble, that defense relied primarily on speed. The Bama line handled the Vols very well, assisted with using the wishbone offense.

Cockrell was a functional quarterback, throwing as many INTs as TDs. Nothing special, no real speed, no great accuracy, but he had grit and stood in the face of a strong rush to deliver the ball as best he could. You don't have to have the best, just the best on that day.

May the ghosts of 82 come visiting Neyland this fall!!

Thanks for sharing Larry. Fuad and Coleman had very good games, and it was great seeing Bates apply the hit that sealed the victory.

Bill Bates, Reggie White, Fuad, CJM, Bear Bryant. Good one.

Was that current recruit Jenkins father playing?

Alan Cockrell Coached Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Rockies baseball out here. Nice guy.

We should pick a sportsless weekend and load every game from 1998 Championship season. Hard to watch those nail biters even knowing the outcome. Lots of close games with gators, hogs and Syracuse.

One thing I noticed Cockrell do very well in that game was lead the WRs and hit them in stride. Long passes were a bit iffy though.

We will end it in 2 years, then maybe we will go on a 7 year run that would be hard to do as long as the little mickey mouse is there.

Was checking out some of your other videos, Larry, and ran across this one:

1979 Majors Show after Notre Dame Game - YouTube

This was before my time, but I'm astounded at how old Majors looked in 1979...and he was only 44 at the time!

He's younger than CBJ in that video but looks 20 years older.

Boys the ones that remember this is getting old, I remember the game well seems like yesterday the 70s what a decade bell bottoms and long hair and a few other things know what I mean.:)

4th and 16 if instant replay had been in use history would have been different, but we would have won a few to with it over the years.
