As much as I hate him for what he did to the Titans, I have no clue how Vince Young is ranked anything but #1. Tebow was ridiculous, but Young was on a different level than even him. Young may be the greatest college player ever, much less of the 2000s. I don't think Tebow is quite on that level.

2000s: Talent maybe. Results no.

All time: Herschel Walker by a landslide

Darren McFadden was the greatest college athlete I've seen with my own two eyes in person. Never saw Herschel Walker. I was there in 1985 to see Bo Jackson.

I still content, that McFadden was the best ever. That dude was unstoppable and could play at least 4 positions at an extremely high caliber level.

He's awesome in the nfl. Just plagued by injury on a terrible team.

You must have missed the 2007 Arky game in Knoxville. He got stopped that day.

Vince Young was no where near the athlete and exciting player McFadden was. Young gets the nod because of the title and his final year. McFadden literally looked like he was playing against little league teams each opponent he faced.

I know the Vols beat Arkansas in Knoxville but it wasn't because of what McFadden didn't do. He still went ballistic in that game.

I would put my top four 2000s as follows:
1) McFadden
2) Young (possibly Berry here)
3) Tebow (because of achievements)
4) Berry

Too bad Patterson didn't play at UT all 4 years. I'm certain he would be in the top 5. He's so much fun to watch that I'm ALMOST a Vikings fan lol.

He wouldn't be top 5 because he didn't play in the 2000s. 2000-2009.

Imagine if McFadden played his 4th year. He could have easily been over 6,000 career rushing yards. Dude racked up unreal receiving yards and threw touchdown passes as well. He finished 2nd in heisman twice. Should have won it twice. Had 1,800 plus yards rushing his final year (not senior year) no telling his total stats that year....

He was very close to being a Vol. Can you imagine?

I must have forgotten how good Run-DMC was. I would have put Bush ahead of him.

No way.....
Bush was great but that team was stacked top to bottom.
We are talking best college football PLAYER (singular) of that decade.
McFadden takes it in a landslide both statistically and excitement level. I'm glad I witnessed him on the field. One of those you tell your kids and grandkids about. Lol.

surely we aren't gonna penalize these players for their supporting casts?

While they may not be Eric, the Berry twins already seem to know the value of film study. That and just natural athleticism will have them on the field early, just like their older brother.

You're right, we shouldn't. Because McFadden shared backed field with two other nfl talents. The kicker is that even with splitting time with those other two, he still put up the insane indiviual stats. To me, that makes his stats even more crazy good. Because he did that sharing his duties....

He basically reinvented the single wing offense and spawned the whole "wild cat" phenomenon of the 2000s...
