Erik Ainge

I think Crompton is the most highly recruited qb prospect we have had at UT since Manning and Shuler.

Only because of Uncle Danny.

I'm willing to wait on Ainge and let him work it out. he has to get the Sanders out of his system.

Everyone giving up on him already does a lot for his confidence. Do you want to turn him into a crybaby whiner like Clausen, spitting hatred at the fans for turncoating on him?

What if Crompton bombs as well. I'd say let's work hard on getting a top calibre OC who's great with QB's. I think if we bent over backwards to buy Norm Chow, it would help our offense, help recruiting, and scare the @!#$ out of Fulmer to do his job for fear of losing his.

that is the reason we need to recruit another QB to play right now just incase. hopefully ainge or crompton grow into the position, but ainge will make absolutely terrible plays that no Qb should make, and crompton is unproven. we need to make sure we have agood passer that is not going to beat us.

Great points. I do think CPF knows he cannot afford a weak hire.

We have gone way to far with Ainge to give up on him at this point.

Davic Cutcliffe will have him playing well enough that he'll be a high round draft pick when he leaves Tennessee.

You know, it's one thing for you to personally attack a coach, but when you personally attack a player, that's really low.

It's one thing to discuss their play, but to take personal shots at them shouldn't be allowed unless you're discussing their personal behavioral problems.

Ainge has worked hard, has done everything he's been asked to do and then he gets attacked by a fan on a personal level.

Shameful!

I think the blame isn't all on Ainge. The line played terrible and WR's can't catch the ball if it isn't a perfect pass.

Agree, Our WR's could take a lesson from ND's WR's about going and getting the #@%& football, even if it is not perfectly thrown!!

I think all of this "Ainge will be okay with new coaching/better receivers/etc." is a lot of wishful thinking. EA is a head case, and I think his 15 minutes are over.

I hope I'm wrong, and he wins the Heisman next year and proves me a fool, but I'm not betting the house payment on it.

Many think he will be the choice for offensive coordinator.

Ainge didnt play that bad, but he put up some terrible numbers.

................CP-AT YDS TD INT RTG
Erik Ainge 13-32 187 1 2 87.5

an 87.5 pass rating will get you benched a lot of places.

Ainge is NOT a good QB by any stretch right now. Cutcliffe himself said he makes a lot of bad decisions--and that when passing either gives up on plays too soon or waits far too long to get rid of the ball. On most pass plays, he doesn't look very confident--no sense of purpose with the ball. He's just not good. What surprised and disappointed me this year is Clausen: I thought he would move the team better than he has. Both QBs have been pretty bad, the WRs have been bad--and the coaching of both QBs and WRs has been VERY Bad. Combine those BIG problems with a lack of creative scheming and you have the terrible, terrible UT passing game.

Ainge has been scared since that game. But let's face it he hasn't played a full game since. This problem can't be worked out in practice. He has to get back in the saddle.

How do you explain the improvement of Brady Quinn?

I think the kid has just developed bad habits.  A good coach can coach them right out of him.

Do I hope Crompton is the man yes.  Can we afford another season like this..No.  In the mean time, lets hope Ainge can get his head on straight.  I am not ready to send him back to Hillsboro just yet.

who coached ainge last year??????????? I didnt hear anyone complaining then!!

agreed. Ainge just needs some 1-1 intensive mechanics sharpening and possibly a little psych evaluating and boosting.

you cant coach someone not to be scared. You can give somebody medication but its their problem if they take it!!! But you cant tell someone to toughen up . He is scared something is wrong with the boy..

Don't blame it all on Ainge. What about the defense giving up a 80 yard catch and run to ND after we tied 21-21. Way to go Chavis/Slade!! :realmad:

wow one this whole year!!!! wow what about your boy throwing 2 interceptions??? 2 intentional grounding calls. You sure as hell cant blame it on the defense. They beat us 41-21 thats more than one touchdown!

Sarge blaming Ainge's lack of production on a "nitwit" call is absurd, even for you. You could run that play 1000 times and Ainge only gets hurt once.

I think the game is moving too fast for him right now and I won't disagree that play may be in the back of his mind. I think he showed flashes of hanging in there and stepping up to avoid the rush. Believe it or not, you can blame a lot of Ainge's problems on the receivers not running good routes, dropping balls, and running wrong routes (cough, cough, Chris Hannon).

and meachem 2 he should have caught !! 1 for sure!!

lol, still keeping true to form huh sarge. beat down on someone in orange.

ainge is far from done. but, if he continues this next year, we are screwed. i think fulmer booted schaffer b/c he thought ainge was gonna be this great thing. now what fulmer?

i am gonna start saying this now, and hold to it until fulmer figures it out.

we need a mobile qb with a decent arm and good decision making skills.

look what tee did. look at vince young, either vick, robinson from penn st., ohio st qb smith. brad smith in missouri. all great runners and good arms. sorry leak u r not in this one.

lets just hope ainge can find that special "thing" he had last year.

i have to agree ainge looks alot like a high school Qb right now. i don't think he can regain his form, but you never know. hopefully fulmer will do the right thing and hire henning away from the panthers our offense will be much improved next year if he does. if he don't i think we are in for another long year, but anybody over sanders is an improvement.

IMO all ainge has done this year is played his way to the bench next year. He continues to make lots of mistakes and turnovers. He is making the choice to go with Crompton next year so much easier. Ainge had a 87.5 pass rating against ND, and that was probably one of his better games so far this year. ND is a good team, but their defense isnt that great.

Don't get too worked up. The way Fulmer micromanages everything except the defense (and he stopped doing that when the Chief was going to leave the staff), no big name offensive coach is coming to UT.

:(  Ainge did not play that bad. He needs more game time. He has been yanked to many times to have gained confidence in his ability.
I am new here but why so much hatred for these young men.

33-13-2int thats playing bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His pass percentage fell from 41.2 to 41.0 i mean come on open your eyes !!!!!!!!!!

Why couldn't he regain his form? It's not like this is a spacewalk or rocket science. All he needs is a good QB coach to work with him on mechanics and decision making.

There are plenty of athletes that have come back from a bad season and to project that Ainge won't do it is just silly IMO.

I think the bar for our QBs has been moved down so low that as long as they don't vomit on themselves during the game it's viewed as a success.
