ESPN already setting the CFP narrative

I don't see how you can have the Big 10 loser or the SECC loser behind us. That's why the OhSt vs Tennessee discussion is so important. To me, Ohio St is more deserving but it's an arguable point for sure.
A 10-2 Texas team would deserve to be behind TN, a 10-2 Penn St team shouldnt even be in the playoffs with that schedule, but i digress. I just want TN seeded 5-8. I want someone to come to Neyland thats all. Bring Ohio State on to Neyland, we will show them the difference between Big10 loud and SEC Loud.

If TX loses, which probably happens, then why wouldn't they be behind us in the rankings? Our best win is better than theirs and they struggled mightily to put Vandy away in Nashville while we beat them with ease. I could also see Penn State dropping below us if Oregon embarrasses them.
Because they had a better record against a tougher schedule than us? Both in and out of conference. Simple as that

Last I checked, 32 is higher than 28... (ESPN). On3 as well, 22 vs. 36

SI also has the Vols SOS higher

Well, we played the EXACT same conference schedule except we played Bama at home, they played Texas A&M on the road. That's advantage Texas to me as that was as difficult a road environment as you will see. They walked into a hornet's nest Saturday night. On OOC we each played 3 cupcakes plus a Power 4 team...we played NC St on neutral, they played Michigan in Ann Arbor. That's advantage Texas also.

Nope

Our best win Trumps theirs. And the Great @YankeeVol pointed out our better SOS.
well, that's a hard argument to make in light of the facts I just posted. He's just pointing to a number someone has with no methodology and saying, "but they say x".

By what standard is their SEC schedule tougher when we played the same teams except TexA&M on the road for them vs Bama at home for us?

By what standard is their OOC tougher when we both played 3 cupcakes and they played Michigan in Ann Arbor while we played crappy NC St in Charlotte?

Answer those questions for me

Our best win is against a team in Bama that still has a chance at making the playoffs while A&M can hope for a meh bowl appearance.

Fully prepared for an Ohio State vs Tennessee matchup in the 8/9 game. Gonna be dramatics for who gets the 8 seed
Well, hell, just have it at a "neutral" site, somewhere between Lexington and Cincinnati, with both schools getting same amount of tix. 🤔

Haven’t you heard Alabamas a playoff team for some reason lmao
I was very surprised that we were ahead of Buckeyes in the AP, so there is always the chance that the committee will have us ahead also. But I think there is a more intense focus on comparing the teams in depth than happens with the polls so I am not hopeful. But having Texas behind us with a loss is truly crazy talk.

...and who was right there for a 1st rd bye before Texas smoked them...it's telling that you didn't answer my questions
Look man, I am basing my opinion on quality wins and right now UT has a better win on their resume than Tx does. I am not sure what the analytics guys use in determining SOS but every model I have seen shows UT's is stronger and my assumption is the people that crunch those numbers know more than the typical fan does when putting together all of that data. So if it plays out that TX loses to UGA again, then imo the committee should look at quality wins which favors the Vols. BTW you call NC State crappy? Sure they are 6-6 but there really isn't that much value in beating an average 7-5 Michigan team this year either. Ultimatley we don't know what the committee will do but it is fun to talk about.

Yes it is...you'd agree though that their OOC schedule was clearly better than ours, right? Michigan is going to be a top 25-30 team in most objective (computer) rankings...NC St prob won't be in the top 50.

To the original point - this is the ESPN narrative and ongoing:

OSU 8 and UT 9.

Meanwhile ND would play a weak Miami team and then SMU.

A joke.

OSU won't matter to us. With Miami losing and hopefully Georgia losing in the SECCG and Penn St losing in the B10CG there will be more than enough space for Tennessee to get a home game in the first round.
The Miami loss didn’t matter because whoever wins the ACC will jump us and take a top 4 spot anyway.

Alabama would have been right there with a chance at a 1st round bye if we hadn't smoked them (they would have had tiebreaker over UGA), so that works both ways.

If Texas beats Georgia and gives UGA its 3rd loss, or if Clemson loses ACCCG for loss #4, bammer is backing right in there. Or if PSU, Oregon, Smu loses their qb…..

well the "ESPN narrative" don't mean squat...only thing that matters is what the committee decides and they won't give a crap what some talking heads at ESPN think

Texas and Penn State would be 11-2 if they lose next weekend, not 10-2. Don’t see them dropping below us unless they get blown out.

Ga is already in the field win or lose...Bama would have to have Clemson Beat SMU and then have the committee take Bama over SMU, Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina...OR have SMU beat Clemson and have Bama chosen over Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. So they still have a shot but it isn't a great one...maybe 1 in 5. Will be interesting to see if USC's win at Clemson moved them up this wk.

The other 4 championship games will not knock anyone in or out of the playoffs.

Wait, beating someone by 7 points is "smoking" them now?

Would take a real blowout for UGA to drop below us I think, very little chance for PennSt to drop below us, and absolutely zero chance for Texas to drop below us under any circumstances
