ESPN, Fowler and Herbstreit

One thing's for sure, if you had a drinking game going, one shot every time the Ohio State/Tennessee game was mentioned, you would have been in the emergency room w/ alcohol poisoning by the middle of the 3rd quarter. But it's a good thing that Tennessee was being mentioned over and over in that context, I didn't pick up on any disparaging remarks towards us related to that game.

They weren't. They were just stating how good Ohio State looked against Tennessee as well.

Honestly, announcers are always the same and my mom (who doesn't even know football) sums it up best. If you watch games, they just slobber over whichever team is winning the entire game. They will even change tunes when another team takes the lead. Every game it is like that.

If you think the announcers are anti-Tennessee, it is probably because we are just losing that game. Everyone in world was slobbering over Tennessee when pre-Arkansas game this year, even ESPN. It is our fault that our offense didn't live up to the hype and we choked against Arkansas, not the announcers hating on Tennessee.

If UT sports as well as college SEC sports, I wouldn't watch any of their networks! I am so tired of the constant digs against UT by the network. I stopped watching sports center and most everything on ESPN after the Fowler comments years ago. Now, they can't get enough of taking digs at UT in this Rose Bowl game. Unfortunately, ESPN has taken over college sports. So, us UT fans will have to continue to give them the audience and make them money. I hate it!

More importantly, prayers go out to all those that lost family members and friends today and those with hurt family members and friends from the horrific and unnecessary evil. It is sad that 2025 started out that way.

I simply do not watch ESPN's out-of-game programming. No more Game Day for me... I watch Big Noon Kickoff. If a UT game is on TV with those jacklegs you mentioned in the title of the post doing the announcing, I simply slow the TV to match the online vol network audio coverage and mute it (I won't be able to do that if UT hires the screaming Mike Keith.. I'll just have to go with the muted TV.) After Herbstriet's crying on the air stunt four years ago, combined with some of their other off the field/court commentaries, and embracing men posing as women competing in women's sports, I ignore them completely.

I think Kirk is ok with us but Fowler is genuinely biased against Tennessee and the record of sideways comments towards us goes back decades. Not sure what we ever did to him.

Great infomercial for Tennessee in front of 15M people. They’re talking and associating playoffs with Tenn and not Bama. I call that a win. Or at least a consolation prize.
Yes!!! This is good! Also I’ll be paying attention to how they call the next game. Do they “…against ___! All night?

I like the Saban stuff. He's been throwing out the truth of the NIL world and whatever else. He just says whatever pops into his mind. That loud mouth McAfee or whoever that is can go none too soon.

So…..

Verne sucks.
Gary sucks.
Nessler sucks.
Kirk sucks.
Fowler sucks.
Kessling sucks.

Is there anyone that glazes the Vols enough, and hides their eyes to our shortcomings?

😂

Some of you guys judging broadcasters by some imaginary "bias" against UT are unbelievably sensitive. Herbstreit has gone out of his way to praise UT, Neyland, and the fan base so many times this year, but he mentions UT in reference to what Ohio State is doing in this stupid playoff so now he hates UT? C'mon.

Give me broadcasters who call the game without histrionics (Tessatore is by far the worst offender) or making themselves part of the broadcast because of an out of control ego (Lundquist was as bad as anyone I've ever heard), and I'm happy.

Nessler is easily the best PBP guy in college football, and it isn't close. Understated, can describe big moments without screaming like a maniac - listen to his call of the FG in the '22 Bama game for a masterclass on how to call a big moment as a TV broadcaster.

Best thing about the ESPN Skycast on ESPN News is there’s no commentary at all. Only thing you hear are fans, bands, and stadium PA announcer.

I would agree if they used the same cameras and feed as the network. Watching a game with that awful sky view gets ponderous very quickly, and when it's a neutral sites there's zero atmosphere.

It would help if we hadn't got dominated. They called off the dogs, Ohio State could have scored over 50 easy

That describes the Oregon game perfectly, 34-8 at the half.

We were down 21-10 and getting the ball after the half. OSU wore us down, but had to actually play the second half in our game. They went into the 'four corners' against Oregon.

Yep. I’m not one of them. I’m making fun of “us” in my post.

This is why ESPN is in Financial Trouble. There non-broadcasts entertainment is just not good. They still haven't figured out how to get support outside of the mainstream sports broadcasts. Frankly, they would get more hits taking Finebaum off SEC Network and sticking him on the parent network.

GameDay has even declined a lot. I think bringing in Pat McAfee and Nick Saban has helped (even though I don't think a lot of McAfee, he is basically like the new Lee Corso, the hype, loudmouth that doesn't know the sport). Saban is great to listen to. GameDay would do better to go back to an hour broadcast and cut out the fluff and interest stories. Most people consider those boring versus football talk.

There used to be great football shows. As much of a joke as Mark May and Lou Holtz CFB show was, I would take it over any of the content ESPN puts out today. ESPN needs to find its footing again.

ESPN has financial difficulties because they are owned by the penny pinching Disney. They had to shed some of their really good talent to satisfy Disney.

Remember, ESPN is NOT just a sports network. The "E" in "ESPN," is for "Entertainment. They are officially the "Entertainment and Sports Network."
