Not true. Michigan and ND claimed their pre-consensus titles long before Bama did. In fact, it's no secret that Bama chose to claim 5 more titles to wind up with more than Notre Dame, who were claiming 10 at the time.

I'm sure you'll find this surprising, but I think you're wrong.

I still don't understand how UT wasn't awarded a national title in '39 when we shutout every team we played in the regular season, we lost the bowl game to USC but the titles were awarded before bowl games then. Anyone have an explanation for this? I believe Texas A&M was awarded the national title that year.

Yankee bias. I'm serious. Most of the voters were in the the northeast and the midwest.

Yankee bias in favor of Texas A&M? Never thought of the Houston area as "Northeast" or "Midwest".

Never thought of Texas as being in the Midwest, you're just a modern day Rainman aren't you? And I'm sure you'll copy and paste something out of context that says Texas is the south or part of Mexico to prove your point, so I'll save you the time and tell you I don't care you dirty cheatin' no good bammer.

You are freaking stupid. And you're proud of it. You go out of your way to display how stupid you are on a regular basis, and you do so without an inkling of shame.

Texas is not, nor has it ever been, a part of the American Midwest.

Alabama is not, nor has it ever been, respected in or by the United States of America.

Its not southern, its not really southwestern. If its not in the midwest where is it? A large part of the state fits geographically with Oklahoma and Kansas.

It's either South or Southwest. It is not in the same region as Ohio.

For a land mass with the breadth of Texas, it is difficult to come up with a single descriptor that is uniformly accurate. Therefore, the best way to conceptualize the Lone Star State, in my opinion, is ecological. From that standpoint, it is factually correct to describe at least the western half of Texas as being part of the Southern Plains.

It always struck me as a gross misnomer to speak of the old "Southwest" Conference when none of its members were from Arizona, New Mexico, Utah or Nevada.

I have a Notre Dame SID publication from 1974 that lists 3 pre-consensus championships.

There was an old story reprinted in a recent sports illustrated....end of year issue. It was a reprint of an article about a 1973 Notre dame vs Bama game that ND won. I think that story said they had eight NCs in 1973.

And then Lou Holtz won one there in the late 80s.

They and Bama probably have about the same number
