The explosion of cable TV is what you should be thankful for, not ESPN. If they didn't do it, trust me someone else would.

I was being sarcastic. Although I really do enjoy some things ESPN does. I like their ESPN3 app, 30 for 30, College Football live (although it can be questionable at times), and Colin Cowherd's love for Tom Brady :post-4-1090547912:

Spot on.

ESPN is so out of touch. They are ruining sports. I am not a fan of this SEC network thing. It's all about the money (and I am all for making money) and I think they will have too much control over The CFP. You know they will

The example I always look at: Albert Haynesworth with the titans was great. He became a free agent, and all those damn talking heads started saying he was the best ever blah blah blah, and then he signs that ridiculous contract. They do that (to some degree) with everything. Tim Tebow. Getting the CFP. Etc. whatever they want, the b1tch about it till they get what they want. They are fundamentally flawed with 24 hour sports news programming. Same with regular 24 hour news. They drive things in the ground. They are going to kill sports as we know them today. Teams have become so expensive, only corporations or large groups can afford them now, and that will be the downward spiral. I can't stand espn. I rarely ever watch anymore.

In my opinion, I think football as we know it will be all but dead in 25 years.

Football as we know it died long ago when they started making helmets. You know how many times football has changed? Like any other sport, it has died, rebirthed, came back again, died, and came back again.

So many rules changes and so many different levels of equipment have been changed over the years. Of course football will again "die" to the ones in our era. Football has been dead in my dads era LONG ago. And he lived in the Bad Boy era, when football was bad blood, real rivalries, fights, stickum, and cheating.

Now football has become such a wussy sport, where "targeting" whether you mean to or not, kicks you out of the game, which is ludicrous.

Football as you know it is probably already dead.

I am slowly coming into the new century, I reckon. I am just upgrading to an Iphone on Saturday. I will get my SC app, ESPN3 app.

Some things I do love about ESPN is the 30 for 30 as well, and SEC Storied. The miracle 3 story was great. Elway to Marino was cool.

I don't watch a whole lot of anything else. I usually watch ESPN Classic for old Vols games, and Other interesting things that happened to the "good guys"

After reading all that, I'm thinking you might not be around to see the demise.

Maybe not. I would just hope that it's quick and painless. Or, that I am doing something cool.

Dude, go get a cup of coffee (or a beer) and chill. So much pessimism is not good for your stress level :p

I know. I'm a pretty chill guy. And I hate that the older I get, the more cynical and pessimistic I get. Good news is, I've noticed it and I do a good job of curbing it. Competitive sports gets me though. As a kid I loved sports (like most of us). I went to every home game from 1991 - 2009, I was extremely fortunate. I graduated and moved in 2009. I used to watch as many Braves games as possible. Now I'm just turned off of professional sports (I still love golf and non competitive snowboarding). I'm still a fan, I just don't have that youthful passion anymore. I don't know what's to blame. Priorities. HGH. Labor disputes. The attitudes and social behaviors of some athletes. Lawsuits. Stephen A Smith (most journalists). Know it alls. Etc. but I think espn and absurd amounts of money have a lot to do with it. I realize it's just a game, and it should be fun. I will never stop watching OUR Volunteers. Win or lose. I love them and I bleed orange.

That said, every generation thinks it's the worst. Teenage music will always be sh!t. Some politician will always spell disaster. And the end of the world is coming.

Maybe that's why I like backcountry snowboarding so much. There's no "he is better than him" or "so and so is the greatest of all time." They are all awesome, and they all respect the history and each other. I also love the artistic approach you take on a steep trackless powder boulder field. YouTube Nico Mueller and you'll see what I'm talking about, it's not "spin to win"

Wow. Sorry guys.

I totally agree. And I guess that's what I mean, that this era is coming to a close

That fsu won the first and last BCS Championships by taking down sec teams on college football live! Holy hell! I've always laughed at this Espn hates us but...

ESPN is still bitter about us winning the national championship that year. They were in love with Ohio State and the Big 10, and throughout the lead-up to the title game, commentator after commentator whined about how the BCS must be "flawed," since it didn't allow Ohio State to play for the championship. In the hours before the game, they practically crowned FSU national champions, and wrote us off.

Yeah well screw Ohio State's love by ESPN. Its mostly driven by Herbstreit and friends. I will never defend them, and they never play a tough schedule. I hate that team with everything I have.

I've been saying they only pay attention to those that can pay their paychecks for years and it's a conflict of interest that they have any say in what goes on in CFB. It's a dirty racket that's got nothing to do with the sport.

Although ESPN does ruin lots of things, we can be thankful that they broadcast so many college football games every week.

Sometimes they even put 2 top 15 match ups at the same time. One game on ABC and one on ESPN.

I am so thankful.

However, they are likely to get the score wrong. They have their favorites and it shows. When will they get rid of Granny?

I don't watch ESPN for the same reasons as warreng. The whole thing really isn't that bad if you ignore all the BS and just tune in for the games.

You made me sad, but I agree with you. What's up Kevin Negandhi looking like he gets a spray tan every day??

Was it Linda Cohn that said it? She's the genius that told the listening ESPN audience years ago that ESPN will get you back for the 2nd half to Rocky Mount after these messages....really!!! Rocky MOUNT???

Truth is... Tennessee has been bad for so long that nobody (outside of Tennessee Fans) remember us being good.

ESPN has gotten so big and so vast that they don't even know their own product or the consumers of their product anymore. It happens a lot when businesses simply get too big to serve their own customers. They stop listening and start leading consultants make decisions for them. They are out of touch with at least 3/4 of the entire country.

ESPNs core product is NFL analysis and their core demographic is NFL fans. It has been for years now. If you get them outside of that safety zone, they quickly fall into irrelevance.

anything they have to say about college football is uninformed opinions or second-hand information.

With the exception of Kirk Herbstreit, their college football credibility is near zero.
