The SugarVols were conference champions and a damn good team.

Yes, they were, but the Canes had Testaverde at QB and Irvin at WR, and they were supposed to kill us. I knew the backup PK for the Canes and he was/is a good guy. But, when I talked to him over the Christmas break before they went to New Orleans, I could tell the Canes had no respect for UT. He said all the right things but I knew him enough to know that he was just spouting the politically correct lines.

Remember, we were something like an 8.5-point underdog and we absolutely kicked their butts around the Superdome. It was an incredible game, one I will never forget!

Jeff Powell's TD run was one of the top plays in Big Orange football history!

I had remembered us being a double digit underdog.

I've been saying for years that ESPN will destroy most of what is good about football.

It used to be that players would play a majority of their career for the same NFL team. Now only a few do b/c of the incredible salaries and free agency. It's hard to "identify" with a team b/c the players you follow are just as likely to play for your worst rival the next year.

The same can be said for college football. Coaches (even crappy ones) are being paid prince's ransoms. CPF left with a $6M buyout - Dofus? - $12M. Something is terribly wrong with that scenario.

ESPN couldn't give two s..ts about sports. They love money and have found sports to be a great vehicle to deliver it (by the truckload). Its this love of money that will ultimately destroy the thing that makes sports beautiful.
