I wonder how biased this is going to be. I hope they address:
1) The ABC/ESPN media push for Woodson, Big 10 bias
2) The push for a defensive player to get it and how may defensive players since made it to New York (D Suh is the only one I remember)
3) And Chris Fowler's White Trash statement
Manti Te’o, Chase Young, Jabrill Peppers, and the honey badger were all Heisman finalists.

There were many sources that cost Peyton that award.
The OP mentioned some. Michigan was going to play in
the Rose Bowl that year. ESPN was going to broadcast
that game and they wanted to add to the hype by having
a Heisman winner in the game.

I remember. Peyton was clearly the best player in college football that year, passing for over 300 yds in most if not all games. Woodson was a showboat CB on a team that was the media darling, and then everyone jumped on the media driven bandwagon to select a defensive player for Heisman. Woodson was the best the fake media could come up with, and he wasn't even close to being the best player in CFB.
You can thank old Keith Jackson for getting the ball rolling on Woodson.

And now the Heisman is basically a quarterback only award. I think Henry and Ingram were the last two non qbs to win it 8+ years ago

Well, that is a good list and more than I thought, the problem is no winners. I did not see Al Wilson on the list who meant more to our perfect 13-0 championship team than any player on our team especially more than the 1998 winner Ricky Williams to his 15th ranked 9-3 team. Al was not even invited.

Al Wilson was great, but he didn’t even win the Butkus award. there was no chance that he was going to be a Heisman candidate, let alone a finalist.
