Woodson made two televised big plays in big games and that won the award. That pathetic Michigan team having won a share of the NC is just stupid. They could not have beaten about 5 different teams that year, but were handed a title by playing WSU (overhyped ESPN squad) in the Rose Bowl. Nebraska would have killed them, UT would have killed them, UF would have killed them.

Considering the competition that year, I can see why he won it. I don't necessarily like giving the Heisman to a defensive player, but he made a pretty strong case for being the best player in the country. So in that regard, yes I guess I do.

I certainly don't know who deserved it more, maybe Randy Moss, neither of the Quarterbacks though.

I always thought Moss should have gotten it.

Woodson got it because he was a defensive player. There had been a lot of build-up from various media talking heads that the heisman should go to the best player in the country, not just the best offensive player. So, that was definitely something that the heisman brass had been looking to check off their list for years. With Woodson, they got their chance because he was a defensive player who had enough numbers to justify the argument.

But I think Moss was the best player in the country that year.

I agree with all points. That Michigan team wasn't that good. The funny thing is, I hear a lot of media guys talk about that year, and they say, "I don't count Nebraska's championship." As if it wasn't legit. The Cornhuskers would have rolled UM.
