ESPN updated heisman odds

Agreed. Hooker is a similar against-the-grain, SNTS candidate that Woodson was that year.

I was afraid Will Anderson might be gathering momentum, but I think his mild showing against the # 6 team probably drops him from contention.

I suspect Hooker wins it if the Vols go 10-2 and he finishes with his current stats.

It’s already nearly impossible for a defensive player to win it and his lazy effort against the Vols didn’t help

I'm afraid this will end up like the Manning deal... should have won it... but they'll give it to someone else

Nope...Tennessee ALWAYS finishes 2nd for that award they give out of New York City...

Tennessee has had 4 Heisman runners up with no winners
Manning 1997
Shuler 1993
Majors 1956
Lauricella 1951

I could honestly care less about the Heisman for this reason, Manning and Majors both got the ultimate shaft.

But if Hooker wins it I will be very happy for him and his family, and I guess the bragging rights for the Vols would be fine.

Streaks are being broken this year, we will see our first Heisman winner as well. Number 1, I think Ohio State will lose a game. Number 2, The voters aren't stupid, if Tennessee wins out or only has the 1 close loss to Georgia and Hooker plays well they will look at body of work against ranked teams. I dont buy the whole Tennessee always gets screwed crap. We (including myself) thought we were going to have to beat Bama and the refs but the game was called as evenly as possible. Times are changing and Tennessee will get the respect it deserves this year including Hooker. If Tennessee gets into the playoffs, even with 1 loss, Hooker will win.

I don't think so. Ohio state will win the big 10 and give it to Shroud because I think hooker has to literally win the SEC to get it and it's a harder path.
Tend to agree and don't forget our history with that award. Majors and Manning both should have gotten it, imo.

I absolutely hope you're right. Gonna be tough in Athens and if we make it to the Championship game we'll probably have to beat Bama again but even if we lose I think we get into the playoff's and that may get Hendon the award as long as he continues to play like he has so far.

If anyone can do it for Tennessee, it’s Hooker. Transfer kid, near career ending injury, finding late career success at a new team with a new coach that is slaying dragons….his stats speak for themselves.

Still think they give it to OSU just because.

Just having Hooker being invited to NY for the presentation will be huge for the program as it will show Heupel taking a cast off QB transfer and making them a Heisman contender in under two years. Other transfers and HS QBs will see that and think damn...I want some of that coaching!

They voted to give the trophy to a defensive player instead of Peyton Manning... it was the only time a defensive player has won the trophy and it came in PEYTON MANNING'S senior season. They ain't giving it to a Vol.
Yep. This^^^^^^^^^

At least Keith Jackson ain't around to sway the voters toward his Big 10 favorites.

Manning losing to a freaking DB and Majors losing to a QB who’s team went 2-8 were just slaps in the face.

And Heupel coming in second to the QB of the team Oklahoma would beat in the national championship game a few weeks later seemed ironic to a lot of folks, too (Weinke, Florida State).

Not as bad as Majors, whose team went 10-1 and won the SEC Title mainly due to him, losing to Paul Hornung of Notre Dame, who’s team went 2-8.

How did this happen?

I have no clue. My grandpa was 23 in 1956, so a bit before my time. Don’t get me wrong, Hornung was a great QB and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But he shouldn’t have won the Heisman. It should have been Majors or Jim Brown.

Other than normal stats Stroud will only have one opportunity to make his case and for a Heisman moment…….that’s the Michigan game (not even in their championship game).

Hooker already had his moment and has at least 2 more opportunities. Along with him looking good vs 3 other ranked teams and the possibility vs KY.

The ONLY thing Hooker and Tennessee needs to do is have a good game vs KY and Georgia, and not lose more than 1 game.

Hooker has Heisman stats he’s had the Heisman moment and he has “opportunities” for more.

I don’t think it matters what OSU does……it matters what Tennessee and Hooker does.

I doubt it mainly because the voters are still in the thrall of that old Big Ten, Michigan , Ohio State, Kirk Herbtreet bullsh**. Sort of a varient on the lack of love that the Vols get from the national media.

He didn't just go 2-8. His stats on the year were absolutely horrible. He had 3 touchdowns and 13 picks on the season. But Sports Illustrated did a huge cover story about him and dubbed him "the Golden Boy" and that was that.

Rather Odd that OSU and UT both have very successful football programs through history, yet OSU has 5 Heisman winners and UT's has 0. Strange!!!!!

There often has been no justifiable rhyme or reason for who received the Heisman. The first three recipients played for Chicago and Yale. Dick Kazmaier, the '51 recipient, was a RB at Princeton. See Winners Archive - Heisman. The insanity of selecting a Notre Dame running back on a 2-8 squad has already been duly noted, but even Coach Majors said that Jim Brown was the most deserving candidate that year. From our perspective, the 1997 voting was, of course, the travesty of all travesties, but Alabama, with its incredibly storied tradition, had no Heisman winners prior to the Saban era. Now they are scarfing them up like candy bars.
